Excited to share that we’ve released a change to the way that featured tags are displayed on the posts page. They have been moved to directly above the posts feed, so your patrons can quickly and easily find the content you want to feature.
As we’ve been monitoring the results, the amount of filtering activity among patrons because of this change has doubled.
How long has this been tested or been live? You say it’s doubled the amount of filtering people have done but i’m curious what the data set is on that, since today is the first day i knew anything of it.
Also thank you for planning a fix to go back to 5 primary tags up there. Having one missing was not a great start.
Are there any plans to adjust anything else on the ‘Posts’ page? Now that the tags are at the top, everything is off-centered once you start scrolling.
Also ideal feature for the future: ability to search through multiple tags at once, for posts that use more than one tag. As in, if I made a post with the tags ‘sketchbook’ and ‘marker’, someone could filter by those two. (Could have tags grey out where there is no overlap.)
Agreed here. Many creators have been griping about the wasted and open white space for a while now. It looks like an old blog site and we’ve still got no explanation about this as far as i recall? Is there anything you can tell us about what it will look like once you’ve moved everything around? Will the content width be given some more breathing room so we aren’t looking at white strips of wasted real estate?
Also yes yes! Ability to search multiple tags would be amazing.
Thank you for the feedback. We’ll continue to monitor, but to be precise the amount of users who are using the filters/tags has doubled compared to the average over the last 30 days.
We’re going to continue to improve the ways in which patrons can access your content, because we know that it will help you better retain patrons, without any extra effort. Featured Tags, for example are now accessible on mobile because of this change, which is where a lot of patrons are listening, reading, and watching content.
We hope to have an update soon on searching post titles as well!
I personally dig the tags being moved because I’ve already received a message from someone who was struggling to find content saying “Oh disregard all of that I didn’t know I could sort by tiers” which I’m going to assume is directly correlated to these search functions being moved to a more immediately noticeable location.
That’s a positive! This + search will be a big help, and it sounds like that’s just the groundwork for even more comprehensive ways to organize our content and make it easier for patrons to get what they’re looking for.
I think when a change like this is getting ready to roll out, having a thread on it for direct feedback starting on day one would be a big help. A lot of the distress from creators was because we had to find out about in the wild. Hearing that there are further tweaks coming to this change (the fifth featured tag showing, etc) really does help because without that you’ve got a bunch of people left assuming they’re not being heard and that things are just going to start changing and they have little control over critical features that directly impact their livelihood.
It seems like a lot of the team working on things across the board got that message loud and clear and I’m already feeling a lot better about things, so thank you for that.
Going forward, this is definitely the direction we are headed. We’re constantly finding ways to make the creator and patron experience better, so we want to move quickly to take advantage of those opportunities. That said, we can’t continue to improve the product without your feedback – it’s a vital input into how our team iterates on features/improvements.
I don’t understand how hiding the additional tags under a drop down is making Patreon more searchable. You guys really need to add a search bar so that our patrons can search by title. I understand that Patreon is a subscription site, can you imagine if Hulu, Netflix or individual YouTube channels didn’t have search bars? Also, you really should be able to select multiple tags at once, that’s a no brainer, and is an option that is employed on several websites. I’ve been begging for proper navigation for over 4 years at this point and I’m running out of patience.
Searching by more than just title would be my ideal, but title would be a start. I was surprised when I first joined Patreon years ago just how useless, essentially, their search bar actually was. Even for the purpose it was built for, I could never find people that actually had Patreon pages. It’s a bit better now, but a search function for individual pages would be amazing.
Thank for your info Brian. Anyway in my patreon i do not have any tag showing as you can see in my pic. Can you explain me why (not showing on pc and /or mobile) Please help. I am losing traffic because of this situation!
Did you select any featured tags? You can do that by editing your page and going to the ‘posts’ tab. Select your featured tags there and you’ll see them on your feed.
Right now the odd solution is not to choose any featured tags, because when i choose one or more featured tags they won´t show at all. My solution is to reduce the whole tag scope of my posts to 5 maximum tags and not to choose featured tags al all! Then the platform will show them normally. Oh god…
We’re working on post searching as we speak and should have some news on it really soon! The exciting part is that we can expand it to include post content as well. We recognize that post titles aren’t always indicative of the post’s content and may not be as useful for your patrons in finding what they’re looking for.
The next iteration of Featured Tags will also have the ability to select multiple tags as well, so look out for that!
I personally am not a huge fan of the big empty white space on the left of posts now. It feels so wasted. I preferred the tags being there than where they are now but if there’s plans for that space later then I guess it’s fine. It just doesn’t feel right as it is now though.
That’s great news Brian, thanks so much. I was getting mixed messages regarding this development, so it’s good to know we can expect this upgrade soon. This change will definitely free up a lot of time for me, so I’m super excited!
