I was actually curious about this because a large number of adult game creators were unsure on this, and so I figured I’d ask to make sure; I know of course that you can’t directly link to or show adult content on the front page of Patreon pages (or in public posts).
However, what’s Patreon’s policy on indirect links?
For example, instead of having a link to a NSFW game demo directly (i.e. one click = get game demo), what would the policy be if the link on the front page of the Patreon or on a public post instead went to say, the game’s page on Gamejolt or Itch.io, and said page had no NSFW content on it, and then from that page people would need to click another link to actually get the downloadable zip file/executable from the game?
Just wanted to make sure this was or wasn’t acceptable, as some pages seem to be doing this (click link on Patreon front page, go to website, no NSFW content there, click another link on new website you just went to, get NSFW game download), and if it is acceptable, I’d gladly put it on my page, but if not, then I’d keep it as is (since I have no NSFW content on my front-pages and none of my posts are public on my games).
Our guidelines are not only about what you can or cannot post on Patreon but rather what you can or cannot link and fund through Patreon. It means that hiding content behind other websites, forums or password is not allowed. If a creator wants to have content that falls outside our guidelines, then they need to have a dual online presence as well as a dual monetization path.
It somewhat does; just to clarify though, that’s not a typo where it says “hiding content behind other websites etc. IS allowed”?
And does that mean if the content is allowed on Patreon (even if NSFW), so long as we put it behind a website (two clicks to get to content instead of a direct one), then it would be allowed on our front page, even using the same username etc.?
Okay, but again just to make sure then, that means that if the content IS okay with the Patreon guidelines (even if NSFW), we could link to a website that is SFW from our front page that had a link to NSFW content?
Or does the part in the guidelines that states “We also require that all public content on your page be appropriate for all audiences.” override that, meaning that even if the content was NSFW but fell under Patreon’s guidelines, a link to it wouldn’t be allowed on a front page no matter what circumstances were involved?
Sorry for wanting more specifics on this, it’s just something a lot of us wanted to clearly know and such, not to like do really bad content (underage art, etc.) but more to know if we can link our content that is NSFW and Patreon accepts a few pages down on a website that would be linked to from the front page, etc.
