Wallpapers

Hi Everyone,

I’m just about to offer wallpapers as part of a reward tier. Firstly, how do people manage this? Do you direct people to a download page, perhaps with different dimensions and formats? Or do you send them out individually (if so, how?)?

Any advice welcome!

Thanks,

Gareth.

I use Dropbox links to upload heavy files. Last year rewards I sent my higher tier patrons a printed calendar and the printable file in advance. So I posted the cover with a link to my shared file link.
The file was in pdf format.
At least I trust my patrons they will not use it for business or anything shaddy so I could do that special thing for them.

Thanks, Noenoh - great idea!

Yeah, I just upload it via Google Drive and post a link to my patrons. No direct messages. I even got one link on my “Thank you” page, so they can download it immediately

Thanks, Tarusov. So no one is uploading directly to Patreon posts or password protecting part of their site? I know you can do that using the Patreon plugin for Wordpress.

I upload 2 wallpapers a month directly into the patreon feed. They will remain there for a few months before I take them down. I know a lot of people prefer using direct messaging but I leave them up so new patrons can have access to a handful of wallpapers right off the bat. I just have to remember to manually remove the two oldest each month. Of course, I have a far smaller patreon page so I’m at lower risk of people abusing this.

Thanks, Nekomata. I guess that’s the thing - remembering to take them down! I think I may opt for the direct messaging with link to download option.

I use two methods:

I originally send them out as links (to files in my Amazon S3 account) in the text portion of an image post. The image shows a thumbnail of the wallpaper, and the link lets patrons download the file.

For content I’m happy to leave up for any patron to discover (and that I think will be unlikely to be hotlinked elsewhere), I just keep the links in the post. The “panel wallpapers”—based on the winning panels from my pages that patrons chose—fall into that category.

I do have some things up for a limited time, however, like any 18+ content. In the current month, those pin-ups are available to my $5+ patrons, and I post them as links as usual. But after that, the links get removed and the files go to a “Digital Library” where only my $10+ patrons get access ($10+ gets access to every pin-up I’ve ever posted, $25+ get access to high-res versions of those pin-ups.)

I use the Patreon integration with itch.io for those download libraries. Itch.io is free, they are cool with 18+ content, and they allow granular Patreon access, so I can have separate libraries for my $10+ and $25+ patrons.

Thanks again, Alex!

I offer wallpapers for all my patrons, so I upload the file directly in Patreon each month. I have a very small following so this seems easy at the moment.

We use itch too, works quite fine…
