Please let us set a minimum Annual Membership pledge

So, three cheers for the Annual Membership idea. It’s great. I’d love to offer this to the patrons who are pledging at my highest tiers.

I’d also love to be able to limit this feature to only those tiers, because I just can’t see folks pledged at $1, or $3, getting the same discount for a year-long pledge. Frankly, I don’t want to give access to patron-only content to folks who are paying me pocket change.

Anybody else?

A simple check-box for ‘eligible for annual membership’ would be sufficient. I’d leave that off my lowest tier which seems, as you say, the right thing to do.

If you consider it pocket change maybe you should do away with those tiers altogether?

Very few services I’ve ever seen allow the same discount at the lowest subscription levels. It’s a standard business practice. While I’m not the ‘OP’ I think you’re reading WAY too much into the ‘pocket change’ comment.

I agree, choosing the allowed tiers is a good idea.

I’d really like to select which tiers get it, and limit the it to my lowest tiers, turn off the feature for my higher ones.

Shipping costs change from year to year, and that means the creator might wind up losing even more money if they’ve got a bunch of folks at a high dollar tier.

If there’s more control on our end, I’d turn on the annual a lot quicker. I’ve got the option now, but I’m hesitating that down the road in January, when shipping goes up…?

For me I want to choose the tiers who get it, my higher tiers get original art and it is already HUGELY cheap for what they get, I sure as hell can’t afford to send people art and make it for a discount. I don’t see why we wouldn’t be able to choose the tiers.

I am also not sure about it for the reason that I like that I know X amount is coming out each month into my bank account because it’s my only income at the moment other than my online shop. I could be tempted if I can choose the tiers that annual applies to.

No, I’m good with having those tiers, for the same reason I offer my online classes as pay what you can: because not everyone can afford more than the bare minimum.

I’m just not interested in giving a discount on the bare minimum.

So @reyna where is the administration opinion about this?

I’m definitely in favor of having the option to choose which tiers get this.

I’m agree. I want the annual membeship pledge on the tiers, not for all tiers.
For example, I have high price tiers that I don’t know if I will have to remove in a few months and logically I will not charge all year and then not give all the content.

I too would like to be able to choose which tiers get this option. Like @artbyemilyhare my higher tiers get original art which is by no means the price of what the art would normally be. I’m also concerned about what happens when I have to change my tier for whatever reason midway the year? For instance, shipping costs for patrons in the USA have gone up for me considerably, shipping was calculated into my tier prices but because of Covid and some new laws shipping has gone up from €3 to €5 per patron a couple months ago, if this happens, would I be able to change my tier accordingly?
If I would want to change my tiers on the first of January but someone pledged for a year in December, what happens then, I wouldn’t be able to change that tier in January.
What happens when someone does pledge for a year but halfway through decides they want their money back and cancel?
So many questions

Loads of really good questions there. I think there is probably no way I would use this option even for lower non physical tiers. I think i prefer knowing what’s coming each month and since people often need to drop out because of funds (seems the most common reason, whether it’s true or not!), it would be better for patrons to be able to do that instead of not (potentially) be able to get a refund.

I completely agree @artbyemilyhare I too prefer to know what’s coming in each month rather than having a large chunk in one month and having to spread that over the year. Plus when I’m looking at my own pledges, I would not pledge for a year myself, because you never know what a year may bring and I’d much rather have that freedom of being able to drop out (and come back later) when I need to.

It’s a wonderful feature for some, it’s just not something I’d like to offer.

I guess this is partially related, but I’d like to have the option of setting different discounts per tier as well. I wouldn’t mind giving higher discounts for higher priced tiers. Just having more control in general would be appreciated.

Just bumping this because it’s a REALLY good idea that should also be really easy to implement!

Hi all, thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We currently don’t have plans to limit annual plan options (only for specific tiers, limited number, ect.) but I want to assure you that we’re taking the feedback into consideration as to what we could do next with the feature.

Thanks for pointing this out. I hadn’t thought about things like shipping costs, which already increased this year. I see why annual memberships can be useful but I turned it off because of this reason.

I also don’t like that annual memberships are paid out as the full amount immediately because I use Patreon to have a somewhat reliable monthly income, even though it fluctuates a bit anyway.
