No, the new version doesn’t have the checkboxes for me. Only if I go to the old version.
@FutilityCloset Oh no! Can you please send a screenshot along with your browser version so we can debug further?
Yes, but it’s still several extra clicks, and in the old manager it was possible to select patrons from multiple tiers at once. Now I would have to select those tiers separately and send the same message multiple times which is extra effort for something that could be a single action. But Relationship Manager lets us message multiple tiers at once (pledge ranges, more accurately).
This is when I use the Patron Manager:
- to message patrons in specific tiers (usually more than one tier).
- when I need a quick overview of how many patrons are in specific tiers so I know how many rewards to ship out (Benefits isn’t flexible enough for my needs so I can’t use it but I would like to).
This is when I use the Relationship Manager
- to get the shipping addresses for certain tiers or patrons to deliver rewards
- to message an individual patron
But for the most part I’ve been using the Relationship Manager over the Patron Manager for the things I listed also for the Patron Manager. Why? Because the Relationship Manager is more easily accessible. The Patron Manager is always an extra click or two away: you first need to choose the month but I only need to access my current active patrons.
I have ADD and I get things done when they’re as simple and as accessible as possible. I honestly keep forgetting that Patron Manager exists because I haven’t used it in a long time. As weird as it may be, an extra click does matter to me, especially when it’s at the start of a task/workflow. My brain will always pick the simplest/more accessible option. The Relationship Manager has it’s issues and also makes me click unnecessarily every time but it feels more accessible and that’s why I use it. I’m sure for a lot of people this is not even an issue at all but I wanted to share why I use these tools the way I do.
@Maarika That is a great explanation, thank you! I can definitely empathize with wanting the tools you use day in and day out to be simple and accessible. We will definitely look into:
- making it faster to get the shipping addresses
- making it possible to message multiple tiers at the same time
Echoing what most folks are saying here: The ‘old’ Relationship Manager is easily accessible and has better functions than the new patron manager. Like many folks, send out rewards via messages and having the ability to message multiple tiers of patrons who’s payments went thru. Having everything easily separated out on one page with all of the information viewable immediately is necessary. Newer layout is way more clicks, way more convoluted. I’d also prefer if this update were scrapped.
tbh with “updates” like this, it still feels like Patreon is prioritizing things that nobody has asked for and removing things that many of us find useful. it feels like we’re still not being listened to.
Have addresses been removed from Relationship Manager? I send out prints and cards to my highest tier and I was looking and I do not see that available anymore. It seems to be available through several clicks in the old Patron Manager through a little more navation.
When you go into the Patron manager, and then select the option to view current patrons, you are given a page that lacks any sort of selection to message them. It’s more like the relationship manager than the patron manager and has no usefulness in terms of getting ahold of your current patrons. NOT all current patrons will be on the last paid month list!!! Some folks are new and i cannot send them a message easily!
Hey @GayComicGeek! We haven’t touched Relationship Manager as part of this update, no. I’ll file a bug report with our team to investigate why addresses may not be showing up for you over in that tool
Thanks! If it helps, I’m only getting email addresses as opposed to physical addresses like shown in this pic.
@GayComicGeek I believe a fix has gone out!
Yeah, I’ve been trying to complain about this too.
Thanks everybody for your feedback! This has been super helpful I realized I’ve posted a lot of scattered messages about how we plan to incorporate this great feedback, but I haven’t posted a holistic summary of what the team’s plans are, so here goes:
- The “Tier” dropdown should be a multi-select dropdown, to make it easier to message multiple tiers at once
- The “Shipping Address” data should be brought back as a column directly in the table, as opposed to living in the “More Actions” modal, so it can be easier to copy the addresses
- We should bring back “separator / header rows” for each tier, to make a more obvious visual separation between the tiers when looking at the table
- We should investigate the “More Actions” modal not being obviously scrollable on Win 7 Chrome, because all of our modals should be obviously scrollable if they have enough content to require it
- We should make it easy to message an ad-hoc group of active patrons, including those who have not yet been charged. This may look like adding checkboxes to the Relationship Manager, or it may look like folding the “View all active patrons” link back into Patron Manager, or some other approach
The fix for point 1 (multi-select tiers) should be rolling out later today The fix for point 2 will likely roll out before the end of the week. The fix for 3 will likely roll out next week some time, and the fixes for 4 and 5 require more extensive investigation so we don’t have a timeline to give you at this moment.
Thanks again for all your helpful feedback! Feel free to keep it coming if there’s more on your mind
EDIT: 1, 2, and 3 have shipped! You can now multi-select tiers, show the addresses in the table, and see separator rows between each tier (when the table is sorted by tiers)
I noticed that the Relationship Manager now lists all active patrons by default (instead of all patrons, former patrons and followers). That makes me happy. Thank you!
I appreciate the tweaks for the new Patron Manager, and I’m sorry to hear the old one was so buggy and hard to keep up to date. Personally, I still prefer the old one, for these reasons:
-
I can see everyone on the list without having to scroll to “load more”, so if I want to search for a patron name I just hit ctrl+f and find it.
-
Emails are displayed right away on the old manager, so I can search patrons by email too. Many people has different discord/email/paypal/patreon names, so having more names listed right away is very convenient.
-
I like how the new manager provides the Discord handles, but having to click on a single patron each time to find out, is pretty cumbersome.
-
On the same note, the “show addresses” button on the new one is good, but it replaces the “more” button on the last column! It’s like information gets twice as harder to obtain.
-
I like ordering by lifetime support on the new manager! it was honestly the major thing missing from the old one, at least for me. Much appreciated!
-
New manager is of course prettier, but has more unused space because of it. Personally I prefer small text on tight grey boxes, but that’s just my boomer take
. But seriously, smaller tighter text allows for more information being displayed, which is of course more efficient than having to click individual patrons for that same info.
Again, thanks for the recent tweaks, specially the tier multi-select dropdown! It was super necessary, same for the address + separated tiers, it’s great you could make those improvements so quick.
PS: What would be the usability differences between Relationship / Patron manager? In all honesty, I can’t find the difference except the “more” popup is now in a column to the right. I’m not sure what I’m missing.
David, I need the ability to enter Old “no reward” Patrons into tiers now that I have some. I started with just $1 “tier”. Now I have approx. 1400 patrons. 772 @ $1, 1 @ 1.26, 81 @ $2, 1 @ $2.22, 48 @ $3, 1 @ $3.50, 6 @ 4, 1 @ .4.20, 259 @ $5, etc. on up to $50… Here is my problem… I started a relaunch, thanks to the 6 week creator success class… I unpublished my $1 tier and started with a $5 tier. I have over 20 new $5 tier people. These are the only people who I can include in my “New Post” publications when I check tiers instead of all patrons or public. I have the other 259 Patrons who I cannot connect with this $5 tier without sending them a bulk email asking them to all edit into the tier. what a fricken HASSEL!!! you and I know a lot of them will not respond to this email request… So I will have to bunch them all in the relationship manager and send a bulk message to them everytime I want to fulfill a digital benefit in that tier. I want to also launch a $10, $20, $25 tier, but I do not want this problem. So basically I have 700 Patrons who I cannot include in my basic tier outreach, through locked tier benefit delivery. Please help with this and please don’t tell me I have to send out that bulk email you recommend with this problem. There has got to be an easy way to place my patrons into tiers without having this huge feedback requirement from them. thanks
The new manager is really, really bad. Having 10k+ patrons it’s pretty much impossible to find a specific patron. I don’t have all day to click “load more” until I hit the jackpot…
Just wanted to pop back into this thread and say the new “Show Addresses” button is SUPER helpful! Thanks for this!
I don’t like that you dropped email column in the Patron manager. I’ve had to keep switching back to the old one to get things done since we rely so heavily on that. Ditch their profile photo and the repetition of the tier their in (it’s in the section header anyway) and you’d have plenty of space for it. Neither of those are particularly useful here. For that matter, the rows are much too wide. Takes a lot more time scrolling. (If you keep them that wide, you could easily fit email address under their name.)
I don’t know who thought of the new manager layout being an improvement. Thankfully, the old version is still there. And I hope this is going to stay this way. It is so much easier to look something up in the old manager.
Still no notifications for deleted pledges and also the obstruction of seeing deleted pledges in the CSV download now is pretty bad. Not only do we not get things we want, they take away things we had.
