Hi, everybody! I’m Steve(known as AlternateSteve here), and thanks for inviting me to this awesome community!
Just a little about me: I’ve been trying my hand at writing for about a decade now.
My favorite genre to write about is Alternate History(you know, “What if the Americans lost the Revolutionary War?”, or “What if Elvis was still alive?” etc.), though I have interest in some other subjects, too, like sci-fi, fantasy, etc.
I joined Patreon back in Feb., not only because I am trying to get a little extra income, but also because I wanted to find a good place to showcase my work as well. And I found that, here!
In fact, I actually do have a couple of short pieces on here already. Here’s my page, for anybody who’s interested: https://www.patreon.com/AlternateSteve
In any case, I definitely look forward to meeting, and getting to know, other creators, and actually learning some new things, too. Thanks again, everybody!
Hello, my name is Joshua. I am a self-published author of three science fiction novels. I joined Patreon hoping it will be another step towards writing full-time.
What I’m looking for the most in the community is advice on how to grow my patron base. Most of what I’ve seen so far relies on you already having a fan base that is willing to join, but then every platform I’ve seen is the same way. Any advice I can get will be great.
Here’s the link to my page for anyone who’s interested in taking a look. Thanks!
Hi this is Michael Hernandez I am a youtuber and an artist, I want you to know my music and my videos support me on my patreon www.patreon.com/michaelhernandez
I’m not normally one to post on forums but considering that’s the main point of this community I figure I’ll give it a shot!
I’m V–R, otherwise known as VRArt1, VR, or Vii Rii; and Tao Emerald for a majority of gaming related things.
I create predominantly 3D art of anime stylized characters as well as 2D art of anthropomorphic characters. I’m also branching out more into animation and hope to soon enough begin development on games and comics.
As far as what I’m hoping to get out of this community I’m mainly hoping to find some nice fellow artists to discuss ideas with. I want to submit ideas to Patreon so that it can improve further for not only me but all the other users and all of our lovely patrons.
My Patreon page is https://www.patreon.com/VRArt1 and along the top I include various links to my other galleries as a sort of small hub; with a few excluded so that it doesn’t become a wall of links.
I am Hawke Robinson, creator of The Wheelchair Friendly RPG Trailer ( http://www.rpgtrailer.com ), and founder of The RPG Research Project ( http://www.rpgresearch.com ). I am registered with the Washington State Department of Health as a Recreational Therapist. Since 2004 I have been, from the Therapeutic Recreation perspective, researching the effects of all forms of role-playing games (tabletop, live-action (LARP), solo books/modules, and computer-based), and their potential uses for participants to achieve therapeutic and educational goals.
I hope the community can help address the following challenges:
Problem #1: Not much of a following to begin with (no fame).
Problem #2: When we do get coverage, while we get many verbal kudos, these aren’t translating to financial support.
So, I am hoping the community here will take a look at what we’re doing, and maybe help us try to improve the efficacy of our campaign.
My apologies if the rest of this TLDR for folks, but hopefully providing the full picture will be helpful…
I have been performing the aforementioned services throughout the Northwest of the U.S., and some testing via Internet services as well, and hope to eventually cover North America (with others helping of course), though I am primarily based in Washington State right now.
I work with a wide range of populations, but most notable those populations needing special accommodations. These include: Autism spectrum, brain injury, PTSD, at-risk/troubled youth, substance dependency, Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Parkinsons, and many others.
I am originally from California and began using RPGs around 1979. Then I began with RPG Education programs in 1985, in Utah, at a school for gifted and talented children, and then focused on the therapeutic possibilities in 2004. I have been creating and implementing program plans for various populations since, further refining the programs based on the research.
The RPG Research Project website is also a repository of research information from around the world for everyone to share, so that there is less reinventing of the wheel, and people stop working in isolated silos, so we can all improve how we use RPGs to help others.
Last year, to solve many issues that came up during research and program delivery over the years, I bought, out my own pocket, a $40k mobile facility (RV Toy Hauler Trailer) dubbed The RPG Trailer, that increases the reach of the research and programs delivery to people in un-served or under-served locations, and solve many other logistical issues as elaborated upon here: http://www.rpgtrailer.com/faqs
The current trailer is just a prototype for a a more ideal trailer I wish to build. There is only one (affordable) company in the USA that specializes in Wheelchair accessible RVs, based in Arizona. They are a small company. Washington state only allows such products from large companies that are on their “approved list” to be on the state highways. For this manufacturer to get on the list, and each floor plan has to be individually approved by the state’s Labor & Industries division. This means the more ideal trailer build will have to go through a lot of Washington State red tape to be brought into the state, which adds thousands of dollars in bureaucratic fees, and about 18+ months of delays when ready to begin the process. I have a GoFundMe ( http://www.gofundme.com/rpgtrailer ) trying to raise enough for the down-payment toward the custom-built trailer, but meanwhile I am using this prototype as best I can, and slowly making the modifications that I can afford to make.
The prototype can seat 2-3 people in wheelchairs, but the bathroom and side door are not wheelchair accessible. The ideal custom-built version will seat 6+ in wheelchairs, and will have fully wheelchair friendly bathroom, side door, etc.
To date, everything I have done has been out of my own pocket and only this year have I taken on a team of volunteers/trainees (7 of us now) to train in the hopes of growing the capacity to help others.
While I’ve had local and regional television news coverage on the trailer, since I am not anyone of note and lack the fame that others are able to use to bring a large following, and didn’t have much of a following previously, our Patreon campaign has been pretty flat.
After a year we only had 4 Patrons, then all of a sudden the previous week we had a “spike” of 7 others join, but then has been quiet again.
The gofundme of several years has been quiet for quite some time as well, and has plateaued around 1/6th of our goal for the down payment.
I have been self-hosting/managing the websites for these projects since 2004, and I have been on all social media about these projects since as well. We provide podcasts, video broadcasts, etc.
Rewards include early access to research papers, major announcements like the permissions we received from Wizards of the Coast, podcasts, etc.
And while people state they think what we are doing is great, it has been difficult to convert the small following we do have, into paying Patreon supporters.
The funds of my early retirement from my tech years long ago ( http://www.hawkenterprising.com ) are dwindling, so unless I can find more support, instead of being able to grow what we’re doing, I will have to cut back, and I really hope we don’t have to do that. This year I started taking on some occasional short tech contracts to try to re-infuse my cash reserves to keep supporting our efforts, but that of course takes away from the time I have for our primary goals.
I’m Zedrin. I do a mixture of sfw and nsfw art, as well as animation. Lot of character design stuff too, as well as things like tutorials for art and animation.
I’ve been using Patreon since 2015 I think? Maybe late 2014. I didn’t start heavily cultivating my personal one until late last year, however.
I used to have a patreon for an animation studio I ran, but it’s kinda difficult to operate a team based patreon since only one person is able to run the account.
Hi, I’m Sean Hennessey, a glass artist living in Baltimore Maryland.
I didn’t jump in this community page when it was started so just now getting around to checking out the information here.
Hopefully I’ll learn about the cool things everyone here is working on!
My name is Illianna. I joined patreon to find which of my fans/followers would enjoy seeing more of my artistic side. Over the last 7 years I have been primarily a fetish model working with fetishes that are normally judged as weird or abnormal. I’m also a dancer working with everything from interpretive dance to pole dancing which is my newest adventure.
I joined this community because before this week, I was having difficulty attracting people to my patreon & keeping them for longer than a month. Since Monday my patrons have double with these new people all pledging $1 away from my top tier, not that I’m complaining but it almost doesn’t seem real and seems a little like scam/spam. I just don’t know what to think. I want to be hopeful but part of me is not trusting the almost 700 in pledges I’ve gotten this week.
My hope is to be able to meet others here so that we can help each other bring more art to the work & make people value and appreciate it again.
I strongly recommend you activate the Pay Up Front feature for your account, so that people are charged when they pledge, instead of at the end of the month. Otherwise you’re likely to attract a lot of people who pledge then leave just before pay day.
