I have been a creator on Patreon since 2015 and I’ve always included a small image inside the text of some of my higher Tiers. Basically, I add a little badge to the Disqus avatars for my higher Tier patrons that they can use when commenting, and the image shows what the badge looks like on an avatar.
Today I went to look over my Tier descriptions and the image was gone.
When I went to edit the Tier, I didn’t see any way to fix it. It’s been a long time since I added the image, so I can’t remember if I used HTML code or a dedicated image button, but neither options were visible.
I’ve sent in a ticket to Patreon support, but it’s hard to know if or when I’ll receive a response to that. There isn’t a tech support option, only a “Question About Patreon” choice. I did my best to guess what drop-downs from there would get to the right person.
Does anyone know if Patreon changed their policy about having images in the body of a Tier? Any ideas on how to fix this?
Just to be clear, I don’t want to have an image for the entire Tier. I’m not looking for a “Tier image.” That would not be useful. I need to be able to include an image in the body of the text of the tier under one of the bullet points. It’s to illustrate a specific benefit.
I’ve tried to add an image to a tier description, but it seems that dropping it in the editor it doesn’t keep it, and they’re not accepting html from it.
I agree with CreatorMetrics’ assessment. The image is just gone because of the domain change/forwarding. But I don’t think it can be saved, because the forwarding is changing the URL completely and the original call is also not a secure call.
But is there a reason to place the image in that specific spot? If not, just use Patreon’s regular way to upload a tier image:
Thank you, CreatorMetrics. I had suspected it might be an issue with the change of my domain name. Your solution is a clever one, and probably the one I’ll need to figure out how to make work.
The challenge is that that file (along with the others Avatar images) ARE already in the exact same path on the new domain. But for some reason, Wordpress is blocking it. But that’s a different issue, and one I think I can troubleshoot on my own.
As you mentioned, though, while it’s a good hack, it’s not a permanent solution. I would never be able to edit my Tier again. Hopefully, Patreon will decide to restore the ability to add images to the body of the Tiers, so this become a non-issue again.

That might be true. I’ll give it a shot, though.
As I mentioned above, the image meant to illustrate one specific benefit offered in the Tier, and it’s not even the most important benefit. It would not make sense to have it be an image to represent the entire Tier.
If you have access to the server (eg. uploading files through ftp) you could try by setting a redirect through the .htaccess file (here a sample article about it), that could redirect to the location where the image is uploaded.
Or maybe there are some wordpress plugins for that, but I haven’t used it in a while
I do have access to the server, including FTP, cPanel and WHM access. After lunch, let me try to create that redirect. Doing it that way will allow me to put the image onto Amazon S3 which would probably be a better place for it to be served anyway.

Ultimately, the solution will be for Patreon to restore the functionality they took away. But for now, all my images are showing again and I appreciate the help.
It works, but as I said, those calls are insecure (http) on a secured page (https). Visitors might see warnings about an insecure and therefore suspicious page or the site might get blocked entirely. This could do more harm than good.
Thank you for your thoughts on this. Just to be clear, you’re concerned about visitors to my Patreon page being thrown warnings or having their browser refuse to load the page?
Currently, I’m not seeing any issues with the security of the connection of the page in my browser. The images just show, and my updated Chromium browser says the page is secure.
Are you seeing any warnings or issues on your end?
I finally heard back from Patreon Support on this. It does look like the broken ability to add images is a deliberate choice.

Although this used to be an option, we no longer support it.

Very unfortunate, and I’m not sure why they would make describing benefits to potential patrons less flexible and compelling. But there it is.
Guess I won’t be editing those Tiers for a while.
If this is a feature you think you might want restored, please reach out to Patreon tech support and ask for it as a feature request. I’ve done that, and maybe if they hear from other creators, they will realize there’s a compelling need.
