Feedback on Creator Landing Page Experiment

I also prefer all the tiers to be visible.

5 posts were split to a new topic: Open Studio: New Locked Post Teaser

There’s a lot of weird inconsistencies when I viewed my page.

I only have 4 tiers so when i first went to look all 4 displayed. Great! When I refreshed suddenly only 3 showed and the highest tier was hidden. What happened?

The wasted space is extremely awkward. Like… it just feels like the page didn’t finish loading. Is there a way to make it so each section is a ā€œpanelā€ that we can re-arrange ourselves to fill in the blank spots? I really know 0 about coding and web design but

I really suggest:

  • scaling the tiers to how many people have. So the more tiers just make the panels smaller OR just show them all displayed out already and have the ā€œSHOW LESSā€ option. Just have it all expanded already every time you go on the page/refresh.

  • Widen the ABOUT and posts width to the same size as the rewards width. Again it looks SO AWKWARD and like my page didn’t finish loading. Like the website is MEANT to be viewed only on mobile so we’re just giving you a mobile view despite being on desktop.

  • Make the posts line up the same way the tiers look. Clean, chronological, and it’ll already match the ā€œthemeā€ anyway.

Here are just some quick and slapped together mock ups ahaha if you really want to keep this look. Again sorry I have 0 knowledge of web coding but here is what I thought it could look like

and maybe give people option to rearrange what is where. Like maybe some want their about first and the tiers are the bottom. Or their posts at the start and tiers after and about at the bottom. I think that would help with customizing for every need and that way we can maybe use the about section more to advertise how we want.

Yeah, thank you for reading haha

I’ve seen the ā€œtiers-firstā€ look on a couple pages and I really like it! Like @thelatestkate mentioned, I already promote the benefits and my tiers outline what I offer pretty well. I love the idea of having them right up front. I just wanted to chime in with my brief thoughts in case it’s relevant. :slightly_smiling_face:

I completely agree that having most of the tiers hidden behind a link they have to click into is REALLY not good. I just had a patron join who told me that it took him awhile to figure out how to find my highest tier. The ā€œshow more levelsā€ button is no bueno, in my humble opinion. Why would we want our highest tiers hidden??

I also want to add, that if you aren’t a patron of a creator page, looking at the landing page right now is really tough. The option to look at the posts page and search available posts via tags is completely gone. (I only managed to find it because /creatorname/posts still functions as the posts page.)

I like to be able to look at a creators page a little and check out what content they post before joining. The small single line of posts at the bottom of the landing page is not efficient. It’s also extremely helpful when trying to look for something specific! Please bring back the tabs on the landing page (and I still going to echo the wasted space. I don’t even want to look at my own pages logged out. It’s so disappointing and to see nothing being said/done about the concerns yet adds to that.)

Totally agree with @Sass @Temrin and @AntiZeroGames and no one really sees the hidden tiers behind a small button… totally awful new layout. When your Patrons asked you, if you have deleted all your higher tiers, it’s a real huge warning for me. Why is there no option to show all tiers (e.g. if you have six tiers - 2 rows of 3 tiers without any problem - so easy to create this layout) … but this layout will decrease the earning of a lot of creators and finally also your earnings.

I cannot understand, why you asked the people before - 90% said the layout is awful and then you launch it … The only solution for me is currently not sending my followers to the landing page - but to send them directly to page patreon.com/join/… where they see all the tiers on one page…

Please return the old layout immediately and if you are not interested in our opinions, don’t ask us before. Patreon is a real great way for a lot of creators to get extra income and 99% of us are really thankful for this option, but right now it is always a bit frustrating…

Good news, everyone!

They might have jumped the gun when it comes to rolling it out, but they are working on correcting the issues! Take a look.

100% agree with all the comments about wasted space on desktop, but the main reason I dislike the update is because the tiers featured prominently at the top instead of your about section gives a first impression that you’re providing a subscription service, which is (for me) not what Patreon is about.

Maybe I’m in the minority here, but for me Patreon is about individuals supporting artists/creators because they like what they do and want to help them - not because they want to get something out of it. The rewards are there to provide extra incentive, but IMO should not be used as a paywall for some kind of product. Patreon should after all treat people as patrons, not customers.

Found another ā€˜feature’ of this horrible new landing page. Not only does it hide your tiers, it ALSO hides all of the rewards you’re offering! Yes, let’s put the rewards and tiers first so patrons know what they’re signing up for. Except not, they can’t see them.

Once again, I can’t even begin to accurately express my disappointment with this platform. Please roll back this update until it’s actually ready. The newer examples are WAY better than this. And nobody has yet to answer why this had to be pushed out live so fast.

I am really confused.

I went to look at a friends page, whom is starting up her project again after a long hiatus and i want to support her.

Cool, two tiers. No ā€œshow moreā€ so i guess that’s all she’s got atm. Cool. So i select the tier i want and click the ā€œbecome a memberā€ and then i get… this?

In reality she has MORE tiers then just that… but 2 are sold out so they don’t show up on the home page??? They did in the previous layout and that was great because you could keep an eye on what other options you might be interested in in the future but also GET THE FULL SCOPE OF THE PROJECT as well but also there’s no ā€œnotify when a slot opensā€ or anything (which we did have some time ago.) I feel almost lied to?

The inconsistency is confusing and frustrating without some way to be like ā€œoh heck, i want this in the future!ā€

And i’m still dieing with all the white space. I got logged out randomly today and saw my home page with the condensed buttons and still so much white space and it’s really aggravating. Even my patrons were like ā€œwhat the heck?ā€ when i mentioned it looking for their feedback. First comment was pretty much ā€˜why does it look like i’m looking at it from my phone?’ I can’t imagine what other potential patrons feel when they now look at my mess of a page. (I actively talk about my patreon and i’ve not had any new patrons since this change. Only losses. So i dunno.)

I do appreciate the simpler offers-first design, as people who visit my Patreon page are already familiar with my work. However, there’s some important info in the main page text that now new patrons are starting to miss because they have to scroll down. (It’s about reward delivery schedule, and even having that text red/bold/first line, people miss it because they don’t scroll down.)

Some way to put header text paragraph before the offers would be useful.

For the most part I like how the new page is coming together, but I can’t help feeling it was rushed. Mainly just little, simple to fix, CSS layout issues, e.g. this one, which really triggers my OCDs, lol!!

I’ve just had my fourth complaint about the new home page (today). Actually, it’s more of a point of confusion for people who simply aren’t noticing that you hid some of our tiers under a MORE button. People never had a problem finding tiers under the old design, so I’d call this counterproductive. All tiers should be shown regardless as to whether or not you think I have too many. The more you make people work to find a tier, the less likely they will select it. What’s worse is you are hiding the highest priced tiers and that will have a significant impact on us in the long run.

I’m also not sure I’m sold on placing who we are and what we’re about below a wide bar of tiers. I know you believe that people already know who we are, but the WHY we want them to support us is important and more important than this design allows. If the why wasn’t important goals would be meaningless and I know for a fact that they haven’t been.

Since you have the text way below the tiers now, it’s even less clear how people should pledge when they have international shipping charges. This, of course, would be easy fixed if you would allow us to create shipping options on tiers where we list the appropriate rates for different regions.

I also find myself in agreement with the others in regards to the whitespace issues.

If I was able to find an option to turn this off and go back to the old page, I would.

I don’t like the landing page at all, it just seems like an awkward layout for mobile. Please allow us to opt out of this. ;~;

Would appreciate an official response to some of the concerns I mentioned, particularly since it seems that a few others are feeling the same.

Hi all! As you may recall from this update we recently experimented a new way to display tiers that eliminates the need for people to click on ā€œShow Moreā€ to see all tiers. The goal was to make the higher priced tiers more visible, but on average we found that the pledge amounts, and conversion rates were lower than the version that is currently live, so we decided not to roll out that change widely. Based on the positive feedback from creators on how that design presented tiers with a higher price point, we will continue to iterate on the existing version, integrate your feedback, and find a solution that works well and that you can be happy with.

Today I was on a call with a marketing company I’m working with on a project. First stop, my Patreon page. First comment ā€œI see here you have three tiersā€¦ā€ while I actually have six.

It’s hard to argue against ā€œon averageā€ improvements, but I can’t help but feel a little uneasy when a person whose job is looking at and building websites goes to my Patreon and doesn’t even see the show more button until I tell them it’s there. Thankfully Patreon has armed me with a lot of tools that are effective, like Special Offers and the presentation of locked posts, and I have some handy ways to promote my three highest tiers.

At this point I’m wondering if the sweet spot is just having three tiers. I don’t know.

How long is this experiment lasting? Are any new visitors seeing the old style of page, below, any more?

This older layout was so much more compelling. I especially dislike that my more profitable (and popular!) tiers are hidden by default now.

The new style seems to have gone back to having the avatar icon over the banner image, which produces problems as I am sure Patreon are aware (as they fixed it in the older style above). However, because the ā€œAbout meā€ section is so low, I feel that more information has to be included in the banner now (Which would involve a lot of design time on my part, to make sure the dynamic resizing doesn’t obscure something important).

Something missing from the new style is the ā€œtagsā€ for the posts. I used these to highlight important topics but this is gone. I’m glad that the top post is a public post which will serve us well for now, but I’ll want to post some Patron only news soon and would rather that new visitors to the page can press a tag to see something interesting to them.

Like others have said, all the extra white space on the new version makes the website look broken. Please let us know what the outcome of this experiment is and the timetable involved.

Totally agree with @TeamJemjie and also with @YuuriVoice … it was announced a testing period and the first change should come immediately - but you still find on most of the Patreon pages only 3 tiers visible and the small ā€œShow moreā€ button. Also when trying via different VPNs and Inkognito tabs, most of the Patreon pages also show the new ā€œ3 box layoutā€ which is horrible - because most of the higher priced tiers are hidden and people send emails, why we all deleted the Top-Levels…

PLUS - if you check also a lot of the NSFW pages with your new ā€œBLURRā€-effect - I’m really wondering how many ā€œreal detailsā€ people can see. They do not have to become a Patreon, just walk away 3 feet from your monitor and your imagination will make the rest… my page is still a mixture of SFW/NSFW - but other pages contain a lot of real adult content…

The idea with blurred previews might be fine for a lot of creators - but never for NSFW creators… - just remove this option immediately … and that is very easy to handle - just check if ā€œNSFW-pageā€ -> old style // SFW -> blurr-version…

Sorry guys - but you are still working on a lot of things on the same time - but why don’t you ask your creators like you did with these fantastic video calls a year ago and ask for their feedback…

So @mindy all all the development staff - when do you expect to end this A/B testing session, show all possible tiers again and when will this ā€œBlurr-experimentā€ end?

Thank you for your update - really love the platform and the community - but right now, … :see_no_evil:
