Email About Cancelations? Gosh, Who Wants That?

Man, it would be a Christmas freakin’ miracle if Patreon emailed me when someone cancels! It’s easily, hands-down, the worst thing about this place…

We agree!!! How hard is it too let us know??? We are notified when someone joins! C’mon Patreon… Get this feature up and running. It can make a huge difference to all of us!

If this becomes a thing again, make it opt-in instead of opt-out.

Not a lot of things are less encouraging than getting a bunch of emails about getting less money.

I agree! Log in to do some work and see you lost five patrons. I would love to have a “before you go” message. I’d like to know why people are leaving.

I agree that a notification, with an opt-out option, that we’ve lost patrons would be helpful.

@blackwidowpodcast There are exit interviews. I wouldn’t say mine were very helpful, but at least patrons had to put something before they left, rather than just seeing the number of patrons be lower.

I would LOVE for this to be a feature.

It’s really annoying because they know we all want it yet refuse to implement such a simple feature.

Weird, I don’t get those emails any more. Now I find out if someone deletes their pledge when I go to my notifications page. But there’s no corresponding email settings that I can find??

Email notifications of patrons who have canceled their pledges would be VERY helpful to us for a variety of reasons. Been waiting a long time to see if they will finally add this.

I don’t understand this topic. Can anyone tell me how is this exactly helpful? I can’t figure out what is the way of thinking about it.

I don’t find exit surveys helpful even when they leave a message because most of it is financial issues. And then majority simply closes the page without selecting any reason. In fact the people who do leave a reason are so vague that it never makes a difference.

Losing supporters can be caused by so many different factors that I don’t see how being notified about it benefits you. Wouldn’t you end up being exposed to projecting reasons on the granular information you’re receiving? I can take a look month-to-month on my numbers and have an idea what happened based on my activity, engagement, time of the year, and the state of the “industry” I am in. One-by-one might be nice to put into a spreadsheet but I’m failing to figure out what else is it useful for.

I’m genuinely interested to learn. And when suggesting a change, the reasoning behind it is the foundation of its existence and I’m having trouble finding that reasoning.

EDIT: And just to be clear, I don’t oppose the idea of it existing (as long as it’s optional, as stated before).

All I can figure is it might help ppl when tracking which patrons get rewards sent to them at the start of a month, or maybe to alert them that a limited tier has a space open that they can now advertise about to fill it ASAP? But yeah I agree, if that becomes a feature I would like it to be something I can opt out of!

Oh, that’s very eye-opening to me, I haven’t considered how people run their pages. There’s obviously very big micro-management oriented benefits from having this kind of information, if you do run things on that level. I can imagine Patreon might not offer enough tools to do so efficiently. Thank you for mentioning it!

With that, I’m still questioning if having notifications/emails about it is the way to handle this kind of thing. A proper timeline-like summary tool might end up being more helpful.

We list our patrons who are in certain tiers on a “Thank You” page, and if they drop out, we need to delete their names from the page. Email notifications would make this much easier (keep the email in the inbox until we delete their name, and then archive it). Also, we sometimes have situations where people drop out and then sign back up again, and I’d like to be able to easily check when they dropped out before, which I could do by searching email. We also sometimes want to check, say, how many patrons did we lose last December, to see how it compares with this December. No easy way to do that, though we could by searching email. Various reasons.

they do have a “exit survey” feature where people give reasons for leaving, but I agree, would love a “wait, before you go!” in case people are leaving over a misunderstanding.

Looks like we’re losing the plot here, I’m not talking about tiers or exit surveys. I’m talking about an option to get an email when someone cancels, period. Simple. It seems Patreon flat refuses to offer the option, I guess because “getting a bunch of emails about getting less money” is a real bummer, dude? Yeah, that’s how business works. Here, I’ve made a visual aid:

I agree. I would like this option in the email listings. Gives folks to option to opt out but for those of us where we have potentially time sensitive things, need to know when a slot for something opens up so we can advertise, etc. I definitely need this.
I -sometimes- get a notification on the mobile app or browser but never right away. I just happen to see it next I visit it. Which is unhelpful for scheduling.

Agreed. I actually get nervous about logging into my Patreon account because of the cancellation risk. )(Which hurts your engagement!)

I don’t want it. How is it helpful?
