This is my original thread on the subject.
Reyna’s most recent reply in-thread was predictably disappointing. Not because she said no, but because she didn’t.
I asked a straightforward question: is Patreon going to do the thing I asked?
In response, she tried to drum up excitement for all the positive changes that are just around the corner. The one thing she didn’t do? Answer my question. Or provide the least bit of detail as to what we can actually expect. And when.
If you can’t or won’t communicate a list of upcoming changes and improvements and a timeline for them, they are never going to happen.
I think Patreon is afraid of sharing what they are working on, and if I had to guess, I think that’s because they know we don’t care about the things they are working on. Their priorities are backwards.
More opinion:
The problem with Patreon is its CEO.
Two months ago, @reyna posted a poorly-received thread advertising “Jack’s Creator Club,” an initiative through which The Bearded CEO himself is going to help a small group of creators grow their Patreon earnings.
Imagine if you heard that the CEO of Bank of America was starting a “Moynihan’s Club” where Brian Moynihan is going to personally help five or six checking account customers with their account management.
If you are having trouble imagining that as something that might ever exist, that’s because it would never exist. The idea itself is absurd.
That Patreon’s CEO thinks “Jack’s Creator Club” is a good way to spend his time is a serious problem.
Particularly because he might be right.
(On the bright side, at least now I have a better understanding of why nothing ever gets done here.)
