Connecting With Other Visual Artists

Thanks so much! Just glancing at his method of drawing heads I can tell he’s using Loomis’ method which is what I’m trying to learn. That will help a lot to see and hear someone actually working with that technique. Looks like he does critique too and has a FB group, so I might be able to get some help there as well.

CSP has a 3D model you can use for posing, but I have struggled with that and given up. For figure reference I bought some figmas and photograph them from different angles to get an idea for composition and dynamic posing and they are extremely helpful to me, but I don’t always need them. Most of what I’ve been having trouble with is the face and head. I don’t want to be dependent upon always using references so learning that technique from the videos will help a LOT.

Definitely think I need to return to sketchbook drawing until I get comfortable with my tablet and CSP. I’m already fairly comfortable with inking and coloring on it, but just sitting down to sketch for long periods of time it’s not comfortable. The tablet isn’t portable so I have to be at my desk and it’s really the chair that’s not comfortable. But that’s a different problem entirely. I hear you on using what you’re used to. I’ve been using an old version of Photoshop for years and when I can’t find something in CSP, I just take the file over and do editing type stuff in PS. It’s both lazy and inefficient, but I don’t want to try and learn the entire program in one sitting. My poor little brain and bad memory can’t deal.

Thank you! Thank you for your help.

No problem at all! I have found Proko to be really helpful with a lot of things. I need to sit down and do some full human studies more. I have the same issues with facial features. Bodies i can draw for days but the structure of a human head eludes my understanding when it comes to putting knowledge to paper. (Heck, when i was young and trying to draw humans, i was having a hard time with drawing faces and so i thought to myself, “Well, what CAN i draw?” The answer was animals. So i drew a dog head on a human body and poof, my very first anthro creature. Been drawing anthropomorphic critters ever since!)

Haha, yeah i do the same as well. I bounce back to SAI/Photoshop when I’m having issues in another program all the time. I’ve found there are some issues with CSP (or at least the particular level of paid version that i have) that prevents certain file types from being saved out and it only seems to save in certain colour modes which is REALLY annoying so I’ll likely be using Photoshop and SAI for final editing for the foreseeable future. If i find that CSP is a good fit, I’ll buy the highest paid version and get “all the things” but for now it’s not worth it to spend the extra money if I’m not sure it’ll end up being my cup of tea.

( @ellie - I’m not sure whats happening but i saw the first post from @estherfanworld in the thread here, actually present in the line-up and then it disappeared. The second one i didn’t see at all, just a notification. But the first one was actually here in the thread and i clicked links they posted directly from the thread and then it was gone. We have moved the convo to notes for the time being but this is very wierd.)

@Temrin Sorry for the confusion here! Looks like an overeager spam bot flagged Esther’s post as potential spam since it contained a few external links in it. I’ve marked it as safe, so it should reappear soon.

You’ve got an amazing style, Gwenn! I really love the shapes and colours you incorporate into your images. It makes for a very intriguing style and also makes it very hard to stop looking at all the little details! I cannot wait to see what you do next!

Heeey! Nice to see you here! I have always loved your work. Welcome aboard

Hey, I’ve been around a while but haven’t posted here yet. I finally revised my outdated main page to reflect changes in my work. I’m an abstract artist working with large themes such as cosmology, using geometry in mandala patterns, often including an ancient style of Arabic calligraphy. In parallel I’m experimenting with natural art materials, and using what I can forage locally. I’ve been posting a fair bit about that!

I’m also joumajnouna on instagram, twitter and facebook!

I’m seeing an influx of new creators to these forums so i wanted to send out another post here to welcome visual artists to this thread since it’s been a bit quiet for a while :3

Please feel free to share your links, projects, works, etc!

Hi Temrin and thanks for creating this thread.

Also, the opening to NSFW artists is much appreciated since almost everything on Patreon feels like punishing us in every way already. lol

Btw, I’m a NSFW 2D artist/animator/game-dev and there’s not so much to add on top of this, I guess.

See you around!

Hey no problem! I am a NSFW artist myself (though not entirely) and honestly, artists all through the ages have done “adult” content. We should promote and lift eachother up no matter what rating we choose to draw.

Feel free to link your projects, social media, etc so people can find your work a bit easier.
