Yearly billing

So glad to hear you’re seeing good results, @trey :raised_hands:

A possible reason they didn’t do this earlier is abuse of the system? I.e. a creator might have a bunch of annual charges and end up not doing much that year, causing an influx of complaints from upset patrons. If it does roll out soon, I assume it might be phased, or maybe to certain creators only at first that have a proven track record and subscribers?

Thanks for all the interest in the beta, folks! I’m so glad to see you’re all as excited by this feature as I am  it’s been something we’ve wanted to do a for long time.

I wanted to let you know that first round of beta is currently full, but we’re hoping to have another round in a month or so and the team will be reaching out to those who might be a good fit then

Are there any plans to have the funds be given out monthly? I see some folks saying it’s a lump sum in the beta right now and I’m concerned about that as it sorta messes up my flow.

Also when this goes live, is it automatic or can creators choose to have this available? Can we pick certain tiers or is it ALL tiers?

Yes please! Would love this also. Is there a beta I can get on?

Hi there,

Thank you for the questions Temrin. We’ve been in beta with around 20 creators for a little over a month, and I can share some of the best practices we sent out to them as well as some insight into our future plans.

If you think lump sum payments will present a problem , we would suggest not marketing the option heavily to your existing patrons. This would mitigate the amount of monthly revenue that switches over to annual membership. While you would expect this switch to help with retention, because those patrons are “retained” for a year, it would lower your monthly payouts if you don’t budget out the lump sum. If you’re comfortable posting about it in the forum, I’d love to know more about “your flow” as it could help us develop resources for budgeting and calculating the impact annual patrons would have.

Before we open the beta up to more creators (which is looking like it will happen later in the summer) you will definitely be able to choose when you want to opt in . You could even run it like a promotion for a limited time and lower the discount to 0. This could be another way mitigate the impact this might have on your monthly revenue, if that is concerning you.

Right now we are planning to launch to all creators with all tiers having an annual payment option. This reduces complexity in the tier comparison experience for patrons and allows them to get a decision faster, which results in better conversion.

Hope this helps clear things up!

I agree with @Temrin in that it would be much more helpful to have this broken up in payments to the creator each month. Yearly billing, but monthly payments. My goals are set so that a portion of each month’s pledges go toward different things. If they get a discounted yearly membership my concern is that how that will affect my monthly goals as it would put me under the amount for at least one goal while possibly appearing that I have already met most of the goals? Or would it still look like we’re making X amount each month even though we’re paid one time a year? Not even sure how that would look with goals and as I’ve said many times, PLEASE do not get rid of goals. Many of my patrons have pledged because they feel they are helping me meet a goal.

Will everyone be charged the same month this goes live for older patrons and annually on the month they sign up for new patrons? This seems like it would be a nightmare for creators to budget around.

I want to be creating consistently, but I’m concerned being paid once a year would make it difficult to maintain motivation. Say this goes live in January and patrons switch over, by this time of next year I’d be at an ebb if I knew I wasn’t going to get paid until the next year.

Another thing I’d like to ask is how does this system handle when a creator pauses their account for a month or two? I have two months a year that I usually take off so there are no payments processed. Patrons still get some content but not all the benefits of a full paid month. They would essentially be paying for those months but not actually getting their monies worth if they paid a year in advance. While some of my patrons go to my kofi and tip me on off months because they just want to support me, not all of them are like that and may get upset for paying for a year but only getting 10 months of content.

How is this being handled?

oooooooh whatever i have to do to get in on the annual membership beta… i’ll do it!

Hey @iamthesam, please fill out this form to be added to the waitlist for the beta  Thank you!

I signed up and had my first patron convert to an annual plan. The notification was confusing at first. See the attached image. It should state that it changed from $10/month to $108/year.

The text underneath the image did mention they were ‘charged for the first year’ but my first reaction was ‘oops, they made a mistake’ because the image didn’t state it was a yearly plan.

I did send this to support, but not sure how support for betas works.
