My audience is english/italian, about 50/50 and as you probably now italians are not really anglophones.
I just joined Patron because I discovered that they have finally translated the platform in Italian too, but is still not a multilingual platform (meaning you cannot divide your posts in different language for the patrons to filter them out, and you cannot have tiers descriptions in more than one language).
So I was wondering if anyone has come up with a smart way to manage a multilingual audience with what we have now.
Off the top of my head 2 solutions come to mind:
Having 2 separate Patreon accounts/pages, each one dedicated to one language (complex to manage and it won’t work if you connect Patreon to you Wordpress site, also I do not know if it’s possible in terms of legal/payouts etc.)
Creating tiers that are dedicated to just on language, so when I post something in that language I can set it to be visible only to patrons in that particular tier
This last solution is certainly the easiest to apply, still I would end up with a lot of tiers… and what if some of my patrons want to see my page contents in all languages? Should I have a dedicated tier for them too? This would quickly become really chaotic
So any other ideas while we wait for a full multilingual platform ?
I also have a multilingual audience (Italian/English …and I myself am Italian)
But honestly I don’t ask myself the problem… English has long since become the international language par excellence, and the delay of Italians in knowing other languages is something they must correct.
In any case when you place a text or even in the description of a tier, managing the space, nothing prevents you from separating the text into two blocks in two different languages

Yep, that was the first solution I thought about… but in my case it’s not the best way to go because I generally post very long texts. I also post a lot of meditation/hypnosis videos that are only useful if you fully understand the language. Another solution just popped into my mind though… I could use tags.
By assigning an “english” or “italian” tag to every post, then my patrons could filter all the posts in one language with a click, and I could also feature these 2 tags so that hey appear above the posts’ list.
I completely agree with you that Italians should learn the common western tongue, but my audience is not young (35 > 65) and I know they will only come to Patron if I offer italian content.
The tags seem to me an excellent solution too.
You can also make a bilingual post fixed at the top in which you explain their use (and therefore not too long)
Hi @nican - so glad you reached out! In case you didn’t know, Patreon is now available in Spanish & Italian! For anyone logged into Patreon that updates their language settings, their experience will be in the language selected on mobile and desktop.
However, anything written by creators and patrons (posts, tier descriptions, messages, comments on posts, etc.) will not be translated and will remain in their original language.
Since Patreon is defaulted in English, I would suggest you share this update with your Italian patron so they can navigate Patreon in Italian. As for the posts you write, unfortunately your posts won’t be translated, but you can always do your own translation within the post, or make 2 separate posts - one in english and one in Italian.
