Hi, @Temrin - that actually sounds like a cool idea in general. Not just for Patreon …
I fear that with the neglect that Patreon shows for general “arbitrary visitors” an active blog is unlikely to happen (have a look at the blog that they currently offer - it’s not exactly heartwarming …)
What about creating a Vimeo channel that does a (ideally weekly) “have you seen/heard this yet”, talks to the artists, showcases what they do, gives some background info? A mix of visual and audio art might make sense, throw in some tutorial makers, kilters, novel authors …
I’m willing to give such a project a go - I do have some “artists” contacts, but would definitely need help to learn about more, much more … and get a grip on what they do and why people consider what they do “good enough” (that is something that I personally cannot provide: An appreciation of what art is “good enough”).
I’ll put up a thread on your idea, if you don’t mind.
The current blog is mooostly for creators. Insight on social media, ins and outs of various things, which i find helpful to a degree. Some featured big name artist posts i’ve seen but other than their insights on what they did/their process to making it big (which can be some really good food for thought) I definitelly think they should be doing up and coming artist blogs. Give us a little people a little spotlight, eh?
Go for it Marc. I’ll happily comment and put forth ideas on it. It would be amazing for patreon to put something together but if the community wants to do their own thing as well, it’d be pretty wonderful too. (It’s why i’ve liked this thread so much.)
I would love to see something, possibly an open blog somewhere, where creators and patreon users can post their recommended creators and positive experiences. (Honestly, i’d want to stray away from negative reviews just for the sake of it being a possitive blog and since it’d not be fair for the organizers to start playing “patreon police” - which should be patreon’s job.) This would be somewhere visible, since here, everything is pretty much locked down to those invited. It has been something i’ve wanted to start for a while now but at this point, lack the time. Who knows, one day.
I’ve been sharing this artist on my Facebook and Tumblr all month as she’s giving away an aluminum card to anyone who becomes her patron (any level) this month:
I know how it is to do this kind of promotion and be underwhelmed by the response. She is too good an artist to get the same kind of results I get.
