hey y’all,
my names jefrey, writing from brooklyn, just about to launch my patreon and was curious any pointers as to how you launch the first release? I’m doing PER CREATION and have a new album “jefinitely!” I’m gonna be releasing a song per month.
Wanted to ask advice, specifically - I first send out email/texts to friends to sign up AND THEN (?) release a song so that I get paid for that? Or do I have, say, one song up so that when they sign up there’s something waiting for them? Then following on from there?
The most important thing is to have content up and visible (especially to non-patrons). Before I launched my per creation campaign I posted a dozen free releases to my Patreon feed. Then I did a soft-launch where I invited friends and fans to critique the campaign before it launched. That week of critiquing before I went live meant I had a bunch of patrons before I launched officially, so my actual releases each earned money and every person coming by the campaign saw a campaign that was “working”.
That image of “working” is REALLY big. It changes people’s unconscious opinions about the campaign and your work. If they show up to see a campaign with no patrons and no releases, the odds of them becoming a patron are way lower.
