Open Studio #2: Image galleries in posts

wooo I am very excited to see this in my patreon

How would you want your images to be arranged in a gallery?

  • I am personally more interested in option 4. but I see that option 1 is visually more beautiful. I like option 1 and when you hit the “more” button it looks like option 4

How would this feature affect your workflow?

  • I use only images to communicate with my patreons, so this function would be essential to have feedback with them

Do you typically upload from your computer, phone, URL, or some other method?

  • I use 100% of the process in PC, I only use the phone to answer comments

Do you have any questions or concerns?

  • I have repeated it several times and it would be the option that the patreons in their comments could attach images, I need that they can give me feedback with their ideas
  • I would like to see an option to choose the type of gallery

when can you see this in patreon?

I don’t have an official launch date yet, but the team is currently working to build this out right now!

  1. I like Option 5 the best! The single image display is great and it seems ideal for larger sets, where it could get really busy having all of the images in view at once. Option 1 also seems great, especially if clicking the “more” option then led to something looking like 4.

  2. I think this would make my workflow so much more efficient. Photosets are my main reward on Patreon. I also think it would be great for Patrons to be able to view sets within the site instead of having to follow links to other sites like Dropbox.

  3. I typically upload from my computer, but occasionally upload from my phone. My image sets are anywhere from 10 to 100 photos.

  4. No questions or concerns! Thanks for always keeping creators interests in mind!

I love this idea. My main problem with posting images is that there is no library of photos for patrons to access after the main posts. This gallery post option will be great but until I have a long term storage solution I will continue to have issues in getting content to patrons. I love that you are moving in the right direction with this. I hope that the galleries option will be something that will be available for our main pages as well as posts in the near future.

  1. I like option 4 & 6 above.
  2. It would make posting multiple photos much easier and keep the posts looking more organized.
  3. I typically post from my laptop because I can’t attach photo files from my phone or tablet. If that option was available I would use my phone mostly.
  4. I have concerns that this will only be available for posts and not as an overall gallery option for our pages. If I had a gallery where I could store my traceables and images I would be able to add new tiers and then mark which galleries they can access. When I add new tiers now I have to manually add access for the new tier to over 260 old posts. It is a huge problem and the #1 reason I have not added special event tiers. In addition, I had to create an offsite solution for my patrons to be able to easily find the old traceable posts because there are so many of them and scrolling through tags and old posts from a phone is a nightmare. Having to create an offsite website just so patrons can find content causes a ton more work for me and really should not be something I have to do. If the Patreon website was more functional basic things like searching for posts would not be an issue. Having a gallery option for the page would make it even better and would solve the problem of giving access to old content to new tiers.

I’m not sure if I am understanding this right or not, but is this just for when you post one upload? For example, say I post an image on Monday, and I want to post and image on Wednesday, will I be able to start a gallery with the one image from Monday and be able to continue posting to the gallery with the image from Wednesday? And then another image Thursday, Friday, 10 months from now, etc.?

I was directed here because I posted a thread asking for galleries to be incorporated, but I don’t think this is what I am talking about at all. I want my Patrons to be able to view different pages rather than the continuous scrolling format that is there now. The way I envision it is that I will be able to select two options in the ‘page edit’ settings, one that is ‘scrolling’ and one that is ‘gallery’. If I choose gallery, my page will change to that of multiple pages and thumbnails, and have no scrolling format whatsoever. I had countless Patrons tell me that they can’t stand the scrolling interface and have cancelled because of it. I myself cannot stand it either.

Thank you for at least taking a step in the right direction, but for me, the multiple image uploads in one sitting do not benefit me whatsoever because I only post one image at a time anyway.
Please let me know if I have misunderstood or if what I am proposing is an option.

It is very good to see that this is in the works. I hope it happens sooner rather than later, because indeed, uploading one image at a time is tedious and time-consuming.
-Bulk upload (especially if it is drag and drop) would be amazing.
-I prefer the gallery that offers one large image, then a smaller gallery selection below with images that can be clicked on to enlarge.
-If we could control the background color, spacing between images and size of the thumbnails, that would also be very welcome.
Thank you for listening to our hopes and dreams!

Oh wow this is amazing  I would kill for this feature!

I always upload from my phone (iOS). I always upload from an album, not the direct camera roll, so the upload feature most certainly needs to have album support. Like the lens posts. (I‘m stressing this because the iOS App currently does not have album support for regular posts so I always have to post through the browser)

Regarding the Patron view, I personally prefer Option 4. A nice header image and then clearly arranged pictures underneath. Reason is because my photo sets would have a theme where they should be viewed in order for the full story.

I prefer post view 2 or 1
Sometimes I wanted to upload more than one image, but never more than 5. I personally don’t want to make a single post with too much unrelated pics, and also I want my content to be found trough tag, not browsing a lot of photo in a single post.
I usually upload my work through computer, but allowing multiple pics on phone will allow everyone to post little behind the scene gallery and other more immediate photos that can’t be summed up in one photo

what’s the timeline for the launch of this feature? i’m up for any version of it asap.

Hi everyone!

Thank you SO MUCH for all your input the last couple months. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: I want you to know that I read and noted every piece feedback, even if I wasn’t able to personally follow up with you directly. The team has been super hard at work building image galleries, and though it probably won’t address every concern you may have had, we hope it will be a solid improvement in your experience as visual creators on Patreon.

I’m excited to say that image galleries is nearly ready and will be released in the next few weeks! :tada: If you responded to this thread, you should have gotten a message from me about receiving early access to test it out. If anyone else is interested in participating in exchange for completing a survey about your experience, please message me and let me know! :grinning:

I don’t know if it has any relation with the galleries, but I don’t know if it will be possible to add photos in the commentaries of the post, as much on the part of the creators as on the part of the Patreons.

and this feature is now live! Thank you so so much to everyone who provided feedback, your time, and thoughts, as well as the Patreon team who made this possible. It’s very exciting to see an Open Studio go from design stages to functional for all creators in 3 months!

Please feel free to provide any feedback over here.
