Thanks! @amyyy! I guess a work-around to the title issue would be to make a text post, then add all the images in the body of the message, so the title stays on top. The reason I have never done that before is because when I go to post pics (and almost all of my posts are pics) it never occurs to me and I just choose Image Post every time. It’s just not intuitive but I’ll try to remember it and give it a try next time.
Wow @Corablue, thank you so much for the input and for asking your patrons what their preferences are! That’s super valuable in helping us figure out what’s most important to prioritize for this feature.
I agree the experience for comic artists on Patreon needs improvement and I hear your concerns. For now, this image gallery is only for single posts in order to allow batch uploading of images, which is a pain to do right now, but I know that’s only one piece of the problem. The ability to have better organization for your page so patrons can easily find what they’re looking for is a bigger problem that we really want to solve. I will definitely share your feedback with the team and work on improving this in the future. Thank you again for your feedback!
Awesome, thanks for the feedback @JordanB! I hope you won’t have to merge images together anymore once this feature is released.
Great to hear about your workflow @dekilah! Thank you for sharing and I hope this feature will be useful for you.
Hi @mindflyght! Loved hearing all the different ways you’d use image galleries for different types of content! It sounds like flexibility is really important to you.
Also, sorry to hear about your experience losing a post in the app. I hope you give it another shot since we added draft saving. This image gallery feature will definitely be mobile friendly too.
Hey @Temrin, thanks for the detailed feedback on the different arrangement options! There are definitely a lot of pros/cons to each one. I’m not sure how many options we’ll be able to offer in this first version, but customization seems to be a common theme in the feedback. Even if we release just one option to start, I hope we can follow up with additional customization features down the line!
Thanks @SethRing! Scrolling/zoom is something a lot of people have brought up in this thread and sounds like it’s pretty important for comics.
I love the idea of the gallery being linked and having a gallery option for other types of posts. I’ll make a note of it and share with the team.
Hi @SarahDawn,
Thanks for your feedback and thoughtful questions!
One (serious) concern – I currently put image descriptions (alt-text) in the text body underneath the image. Is there a plan for alt-text with the image gallery?
I know alt-text is really important for accessibility, so it’s helpful for me to hear that it’s something you use currently. We’re still early in the project, so we haven’t talked about it yet, but I will certainly share your feedback with the team.
And related: will each image have it’s own caption? (It looks like it but I’d like to confirm).
We may not include captions in the first version of image galleries, but we can consider adding it in the future. Are image captions really important to you? Are you using them currently primarily as alt-text or in a different way?
Also, would I be able to go back and add additional images to the gallery? Or is this just a one-post-and-done thing?
Yes, you would be able to edit your post and add additional images to the gallery.

I use image captions for alt-text. I mean, in a gallery setup I might write other things too, but I would need a way to give a description for each image in the gallery.
And image captions are absolutely necessary for me if there’s not a native alt-text option. My audience is geared towards disabled and otherwise marginalized crafters. If I can’t be accessible in some manner (image description text in the main body of the post is my current work-around), then my audience can’t use the platform.
Good to know. Thank you for sharing @SarahDawn!
Oh this sounds wonderful!! !!
I like 4 and 6 the best, or if possible a kind of mix of the two? It’d be great if the top can be more than one images, or that the thumbnails can be different sizes depending on the amount, and one can manually drag and drop them around for the best result depending on their needs! This way one can have, for example: a gallery with a painting on the top, and two medium size thumbnails for a sketch and a WIP progress image!
or: a four page comic, 4 rows with big thumbnails for each page (or two rows with two pages each, medium thumbnails)
I’m sorry if i’m not explaining this very well…!
VERY positively! I often upload many pictures, but so far i have either combined them into a single canvas, or uploaded them separately… It’d be great to be able to post them all together!
From computer only! I’ve only made textposts from my phone.
Estimating between 3 to 10 pictues per set!
I hope the system will be versatile! But it’s definitely something me and many of my other creator friends have been wanting for a long time! Really looking forward to seeing it in action!!
Holy Mother of Pixels, yes.
I like options 1 and 5. Anything that gives an indication that there are more images, and what to do to see them bigger, is good for my patrons.
Please make allowances for images that are not all uniform in size or orientation, and may not crop well as a square, or as landscape. I’d appreciate it if thumbnails were just a scaled down version of the image, rather than a forced square.
Has anyone asked/discussed how this will look in email? Most of my patrons don’t use the app or the website, they just open emails.
-
How would you want your images to be arranged in a gallery?*
Option 5 or 1 has the best of both worlds. -
How would this feature affect your workflow?*
I’d create more uniformity around the planning of my images, making a more grouped/pleasing aesthetic. Also creating posts would definitely go along faster. -
Do you typically upload from your computer, phone, URL, or some other method? How many images would you typically add to a set?*
Computer, about 2-3 images. With a gallery option I would add more.
Do you have any questions or concerns?
Nope! You’re doing great!
That totally makes sense. Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it. I’m not sure if we can build something like this in the first version, but it sounds like versatility is important to many creators, so I’m taking that into consideration.
Great suggestion! It’s helpful to hear that thumbnail cropping is a concern and I’ll keep that in mind as we continue working on this.
Yup, we know most patrons view posts solely via email. Unfortunately, having a full-featured gallery experience within an email isn’t possible and really long emails tend to get truncated after a certain length. So emails will either show all the images (then truncate if there are too many) or direct patrons to view all the images on Patreon. Given these two options we’re considering, do you have a preference?
Thank you!! Happy to hear this would encourage you to add more images.
it would be nice if you implement the same as deviantart gallery to show all post that the artist make or at least the all the images (but not only of 1 post)
Wow, thank you for this feature, and thank you for asking!
-I prefer option 5.
-Not only it will be easier and quicker for me. What’s more important, it will be nicer and easier for patrons!
-I typically upload or drop images from computer, where I create them.
-No, thanks for asking!
I really like Option 1. I anticipate uploading 5-20 images at a time. Would love something with CAPTIONS so my Patrons can get even deeper insight/context to the photos.
Hello! I’m very happy to see galleries being worked on, I work on illustrations so they should be really useful. looking forward to it!
How would you want your images to be arranged in a gallery?
- I prefer Option 4. Having all images displayed not only gives a good look at the amount of material uploaded, but also allows viewers to click immediately on an specific image they’re looking for without having to go one by one. The first big image also allows creators to have a nice cover to their gallery post!
Second choice would be Option 6, for the same reasons except without a cover.
How would this feature affect your workflow?
- This would mean I could deliver all my reward material directly on Patreon, without having to resort to other image galleries, storage sites or huge .zip files users have to browse through. I mean those are great for a backup and probably will keep using them, but having users clicking only once to start enjoying the content sounds a lot better! Currently, uploading more than 3 images to a post is quite cumbersome. Just dragging and dropping 10+ images would feel super great.
Do you typically upload from your computer, phone, URL, or some other method?
- Always drag&drop from my computer.
How many images would you typically add to a set?
- At least 3, maximum maybe like 12-15 I think.
Do you have any questions or concerns?
- I know this might be too different at this point, but so far my favourite way to enjoy image galleries is “Vertical Scrolling”, where you can see one image after another continuously. That’s also done on Pixiv, and most comic/manga reading sites. I’m sure there’s a lot of artists that would really like their comics to be presented in a reader-friendly manner, and I think that method is the preferred one. Maybe not having it as the main presentation of a gallery, but as an option for easier reading.
Thanks a lot for your hard work!
Awesome! Image handling! Finally!!!
How would you want your images to be arranged in a gallery?
Personally, I like layout one, but will be happy with any layout that is flexible and is EASY for the viewer to understand and navigate.
- How would this feature affect your workflow?*
From the preview, it would look much more appealing than the way it is now, and might be easier to manage. Especially after Patreon has dealt with tag editing…
- Do you typically upload from your computer, phone, URL, or some other method? How many images would you typically add to a set?*
Usually from my laptop. Most of the time. As to how many, each time is different. Sometimes only one, other times several, but with this option arranging even more would be handy. Especially after Patreon has dealt with tag editing…
- Do you have any questions or concerns?*
Not yet, this looks great! Can’t wait. Oh, did I mention tag editing…?
