My Piracy Deterrent System

OK, weird! I’m sharing with the team who has been working on this. Oh, and one clarification @Temrin Are these bots pledging and sharing? Or just plain bots?

It looks like they’ve shared. YP (that repost site) seems to have all of Canvas Swaps’ stuff, even the few private items as well. (The accounts that pledged, were removed from patreon really quickly but it seems they were quicker.)

OK – thank you for the specificity!

No problem

Hey, as just an addition to this topic to deter piracy…I have special videos at a higher tier and what I’ve done is hosted them on vimeo with a pro account.

The pro account lets you hide the video from anyone on vimeo, and it also ONLY allows it to be played when embedded on the specific domain you choose. I set it to patreon.com…put my link in my post…and it’s locked to only be able to play there. Unfortunately this prevents the video from being able to be played in the patreon app, but I don’t get many complaints about it and I specifically tell people that in my post.

Although it’s possible to still steal it…it’s MUCH harder…and it shouldn’t be able to be played from yiff party unless Yiff party is iframing things…and in that case all patreon needs to do is prevent yiff party…or really anyone from iframing their website - this is easily accomplished by a quick google search even.

if someone is very determined to sift through the developer tab in their browser and knows what they’re doing, they can still figure out a way to download the vimeo hosted content though.

just a quick tip - although I know it doesn’t solve this issue for everyone…and I was about to put a bit of force personally into yiff party with some dmca takedown notices (dmca.org for anyone btw) or…if they alluded that by hosting in some random country somewhere…well…

ill leave it at that. but I despise thieves.

I can also help advise (i know a great deal about copyright law)…and then guide anyone to a competent lawyer if they’d like. main thing is if you register something yiff party steals, they are causing economic harm to you and under the bern convention could be liable for up to 150k per infringement (statutory damages)

@carla @mindy - An update to my previous posts. Soooo i’ve been getting bots again. 2 so far but both since august started. This is concerning and i thought i’d let you know since i now you guys were doing something behind the scenes to prevent this and perhaps an august update messed with it as it seems whatever it is is no longer preventing bots.

thanks for the update @Temrin, did you report them? I hope you don’t get anymore. If you do, let me know know and I’ll flag this to the team in the meantime for awareness.

I wasn’t able to report the accounts before their pages were removed. So they have been dealt with in some fashion.

The issue is just that I wasn’t getting bots at all and it seemed to be alluded to something you guys were doing in the back end and now I’m getting them again. When I reported my other Patreon page here for getting bots, it pretty much stopped shortly after I reported it and got a response from staff here. So I’m mostly just letting you guys know that whatever you were doing that stopped the bots from pledging in the first place, isn’t working anymore. Unsure if it may have something to do with recent updates or not but something borked somewhere.
