So, for those of you who already have patrons for your account, how long did it take for you to gain any patrons for your channel?
Of course, I don’t expect to gain any patrons right away, even after I just changed up my page to make it more creative. But, I still don’t have any patrons and I wanted to see if I could attract some patrons in a few days? Weeks? Months?
I had a handful from the start but they seem to join in bursts for me. I get a few around the time a new chapter starts for my comic sometimes (AKA: When I update most frequently!) and the special offers I’ve put up have had a few join in for those two. Then just talking to the community on discord people tends to have a positive impact. Most of my patrons were gained through active interaction with the community- and it’s nice knowing the people who are kind enough to support your work!
I had patrons my first day. The same people who have followed me from site to site for the past decade followed me to Patreon. Most of those first patrons are still with me.
Hey @Rabbitearsblog! Just wanted to hop in and encourage you to share out your Patreon page with your community. It can take a minute to get folks engaged, but the more you talk about it, make your goals for membership, your mission, and the value patrons get in return clear, the more likely you are to get patrons. About 80% of all patrons come to patreon because a specific creator invited them, so you definitely want to make sure to link your Patreon page all over the place, add endcards and calls to action to your content, post in a newsletter, etc.
You could also consider running a special offer, adding a benefit that’s available for a short period of time to get folks engaged sooner. Check out the Promote tab, it has a bunch of information, and we have a few threads in the community forum about Special Offers as well!
When I first started, my patreon was exclusively for fanart. A handful of people showed up immediately because I was already established with an audience on tumblr. From there it slowly grew as I posted more.
Then recently I revamped my whole page to include fanart and cosplay since cosplay was getting more and more attention and that doubled my numbers. Again, I already had an audience asking for the content on Instagram and Twitter.
For me, it’s been about already having a consistent audience.
