How do you deal with first of the month drop off?

Great article! I’m honored to have been included. I shared it as well because I think it’s very good information. :slightly_smiling_face:

It might be bad, but when I lose a patron, I always email them, saying I’m sorry to see them go and I hope that they’ll return soon. A lot of times I was the only creator they were supporting. Sometimes a patron will reply, saying they can’t afford it right now but they’ll be back.
The dip is especially frustrating for me because I don’t charge my patrons monthly. I try to remind them in every post I make that I DON’T charge them monthly (so why are they jumping ship when it’s costing them nothing to stick around?).

The first to tenth of every month I hold a patron only “yard sale” where I sell off used equipment I have been sent or purchased after review and announce what is in it publicly. That usually refills my numbers 60% and I either break even or gain by a small margin by the end of the month with normal promotion. Rinse, Repeat. With my turnover rate I can usually have 10-12 items for sale which is a big enough draw. I also ship internationally which brings in a very good crowd of non USA patrons.

@mstjohn nice article about the dip

I’ve been a creator for about 11 months now and I’ve never really put too much tought to the dip. I accepted it as something normal, i.e. some people come and others go, usually at the end of the month.

However, it’d be cool to know the average for Patreon to benchmark myself. In particular, it’d be nice to see how many people delete their pledges per month and how many declines per month an average creator page gets (percentage-wise). This way we could see whether the fluctuations we have is just a normal thing or something we should worry about.
