Hang Time 2020

Glad you’ll be going over the new tax stuff, since I haven’t read about it yet.

I hope to be inspired with some new ideas after seeing how other creators are doing things. For instance, mentioning a Patreon mug in return for commenting seems to have moved a lot of people to action. I would love some other ideas like that, but maybe a bit more outside the box!

Thanks for hosting this!

For years, I’ve had personal projects funded with patreon, none as successful as my current.
I’ve also been a fan of Conte since the 8th grade. Somehow I never put 2 and 2 together until I was driving back to my hometown with all of my belongings and looked into Patreon support for Covid-19 relief. I saw ads for the various streams and hangouts and I thought “Hey Jack Conte! I haven’t heard that kind of music in years! … OH HE’S THE CEO OF PATREON??”

So that was really cool to see that a fellow electronic musician actually built patreon. I had coincidentally started following in the footsteps of a creative electronic musician who needed flexible crowd funding. Patreon just got a lot cooler knowing the community comes from the guy who made a bunch of really cool music I remember from middle school.

I’m new on Patreon and I’m excited to learn what Hang Time is all about. I don’t know if you’ve done this before but it would be cool if there was like a “beginner creator survival kit” on hang time, with like tips and tools to be a successful creator and all that. Also, yay, mugs!

I’m ready to get serious with my Patreon, and looking forward to my first Hang Time! Also, I understand there are mugs?! My goodness! I plan to show mine off in my live stream! I’m also live streaming while I create the title graphics for my tiers, hoping that will help drum up some interest.

A Patreon mug would be great! I’m looking forward to attending the hang on 5/29 as well as enhancing my Patreon profile in the coming weeks and learning more about it through this forum and other virtual events.

Hi everyone, i’m a new podcaster and video creator on Patreon and have been posting on social media (Facebook, Youtube, my own website) for a while.

I’d love a talk about my project on Patreon page. My big issue is how to get more attention because I genuinely don’t know how to do that.

I’m ready to get serious with my Patreon, and looking forward to my first Hang Time!

Am new to Patreon, so this will be my first “Hang Time”. Would love a mug if you don’t mind sending one to the UK! Also keen to hear what you have to say about international currencies - would love it if new patrons had the option to set their payments in their own currency, as at least half my fan base (as defined by my mailing list subscribers and FB fans) live in the USA, and I suspect a lot more of them would become Patreon supporters if they had the option to set a US dollar amount for their contributions (and I know I could have set my account currency as dollars, but that would have put off supporters in the UK who currently constitute the majority of my patrons). Also (again, new to Patreon, so apologies if this has been asked and answered previously) concerned about people who become new patrons towards the end of the month and are charged when they join and again on the 1st. Is there a way this can be avoided? Or has it not been a problem for others? I’ve just created a video to promote my Patreon page on YouTube/social media/website etc (and to add to my Patreon profile), but have been waiting til 1 June to make it public so as to avoid having people join in the last week of the month and be charged twice in one week. If there were a way to avoid that, I could go ahead and publish it now … Thank you so much! Looking forward to it!

I would love to join your hang times but they are scheduled at 3am Melbourne time! I am asleep at 3am. Would you consider another time of day for these hangs??

Oh, a mug would be beautiful for when I launch a live on Discord with my patreons as I have been planning, hehe
I join @SarahDawn request, as those who do not have English as their native language find it difficult to follow the conversation live, subtitles even only in English would greatly help the inclusion of other creators in Patreon. This is the first Hang Time that I will attend, basically because I always had difficulties with my schedule and language, but after the Workshops, I feel more capable of understanding: D

Cheers!

Hello!

I think that Hang Time sessions are great, you’re very communicative and transparent and give us tips all the time. Patreon is as successful as its creators are, so you want us to do better, to get to more people and create more community… Thanks to your live sessions and your absolutely outstanding blog I’m learning a lot. Personally, I would like to see more creators who are musicians but that use Patreon for pedagogy, for teaching how to play their creations successfully.

My feeling with Patreon is that people are not really active in the platform -in my case, at least, only a few of my 50 patrons are participating actively… And I would like to see any other creators who had this “problem” at the beginning and now are doing great.

Also, what about some masterclasses in certain topics like community management, publicity - not based on adds, just how to communicate effectively -,…

My last idea is: what about a challenge where patrons with the same “level” are “randomly” put in contact and have to collaborate, come up with an idea and bring it to life just for their patrons? This would be a way to get creators to know each other better!

Thanks for this initiative and for your tireless work and effort. I’m looking forward to having my mug, as Patreon represents for me a way to live out of my art as I have never been able to imagine before!

Cheers!

Really excited to hear about creator interviews! I’m not sure if I’ll be able to make the time myself, but I’m glad to know that replays are available just in case

Thank you guys for all your work towards keeping the community alive and active :purple_heart:

Oops. I posted on the hang time event instead of here.

One thing I’d like to see is a button to message my patrons from the benefits page. One of my tiers gets a personal message from me each month and I need the list to see who to message, but then have to click around to message them and get back to the list and refresh to see who is left. Not a huge deal, but would be really convenient.

Also, when I click on the person and click to message them, the history of messages is not there. It would also be convenient to have that as well.

Thanks for creating and maintaining this platform. It’s my biggest source of consistent income at the moment.

My son and I are artists and new here to Patreon. I hope we are doing this correctly: Our entry here is intentional for seeking funding for continuing art creations. We see our work as individual* endeavors, but a teaming up on administrative necessities, supplies, etc. We no longer live close physically but have our work in a “Father (78) & Son (46)” online gallery (AnthonyDJones.com or ZakJonesArt.com both go to same location). We have had several father/son exhibits, and actually owned a gallery together in Madison Wisconsin for 3 wonderful years in the early 2000s. We live 60 miles apart now - he, in greater Milwaukee. My question is this…Zak lost his part-time job due to Covid and probably will not get it back. He has 60-70% lung capacity, due to working in a fume- and dye-filled shoe factory atmosphere years ago, and cannot afford to take any chances with Covid. And after months of unemployment, his current financial situation is going to mandate several part-time jobs to sustain himself, IF he can find work that is safe in this current “back to work” national thrust. His time and resources for creating his are will be minimal…yet he truly should be a full-time artist with his gifts and unlimited creativity. Is it proper to use Patreon in this manner? Zak is not a fan of welfare, but if Patreon is a “supporter of the arts” it will not be the same. Any monies from Patreon would basically replace the need for his taking a meaningless parttime job to pay the bills. (I have social security so would not need the money directly - some common supplies, probably). I just want to do this correctly, and hope I am being clear about it.

Thank you!

Anthony

*I find our heads together critiquing of one another’s work not only invaluable but also so very delightful. Zak is a decent, caring person (and the truly talented artist of the pair).

Would love to know more about Patreon collaborations! We are doing them on YouTube at the moment but the results are proving average for now - looking for a winning strategy so would be eager to hear how others have been approaching these :))

Do you know what tax software apps handle the new tax requirements? I’m very new at this. Thanks for offering a mug!

Hi, there! I’m excited to attend my very first Hang Time.

I’d like to suggest that an auto-save feature be added to the profile editing page, instead of always requiring a manual save. If someone has suggested that, already, I’d like to second it.

Now, while I’ve learned by this point that there is no auto-save feature, I found out the hard way when I clicked away from setting up my tiers, thinking they would have saved, only to find that they had not.

I think if auto-saving updates were functionality that could be added, that would be a welcome benefit.

At the very least, moving the “Save” button to just below the area that a person is editing would be a great interim measure, as opposed to having it at the top of the sidebar. This would create a logical flow to the page. As a former UI designer, I would try to avoid making a person need to hunt or backtrack for a button to save their progress.

Thanks for providing a venue in which I can share my thoughts!
