I don’t think it’s unreasonable for us to be asking for an update. It’s been at least 8 months since alternate mock-ups were posted and feedback solicited. I am a big fan of Patreon, but your communication around certain changes (see also Patron Manager and the heavily requested restoration of delete patron functionality) has been severely lacking. It’s a behavior that says you hope we’ll just forget about it and move on.
Since we’re not getting any answers here, I hopped over to the Patreon Discord server and asked about this. Reyna had the following response:
“We hear your feedback and have been collecting this, but as for right now, the creator landing page does not have any updates coming down the pipeline. We’ll definitely you know of any changes!”
Seems like those of us who have valid problems with the landing page “experiment” are not going to be getting any help, options, or fixes in the foreseeable future. We shouldn’t have had to wait over 8 months (or go to another support venue) to find out about this. Very disappointing on multiple counts.
That is really disappointing to hear.
Brian
Hey @neil, like I mentioned on Discord, we’re always bookmarking areas of Patreon that could use improvement. We ask for feedback frequently, even when we can’t take immediate action, so that we can be prepared when it is time to make updates. I know it must be incredibly frustrating when you don’t see these improvements happen quickly, but I promise you they’re not being forgotten about.
3 months later…whistle
I feel the same. Things in this thread don’t seem to be heard either
It does make a creator feel like the latest round of $90,000,000 of investor money isn’t being used to improve the functionality for creators.
Most of us have small requests that would make a HUGE difference for many creators, and most of all for MANY PATRONS, and yet… crickets.
I love what I’ve been able to do with Patreon, and I have no problem with the worker bees who are doing their best to do their jobs for Patreon… but it really doesn’t feel like creators are being listened by the ownership of Patreon.
I have to admit, I don’t know HOW that other company that does this same thing as Patreon found out my approximate earnings (since I keep them hidden from public view), but they sure did make a compelling pitch for me to switch, even though there would be a risk of losing patrons who don’t make the jump…
I just honestly don’t feel like we’re being heard here, which is a shame because Patreon has SO MUCH potential to do so much more for creators… and most of what we ask for requires SO LITTLE investment on Patreon’s part.
Am I missing something?
Brian
Hey @BrianJamesFreeman – I’m so sorry you feel like you are not being heard as a creator. Please know that I do take all of the feedback and suggestions written here on the forum back to the appropriate teams. We have a monthly meeting dedicated to just sharing the feedback we get from creators and patrons.
Like I mentioned a few months ago, updates and changes don’t happen quickly but they are not forgotten about. We are constantly working on improving the Patreon experience and running different beta tests to find the best solution. Sometimes small, quick fixes may not be the right choice when we’re working on bigger, more impactful improvements.
If you’d like, I’d be happy to meet with you and chat through your biggest frustrations and pain points. Send me a DM and we’ll get that set up.
@reyna
I think it’s not so much the feeling that community managers like yourself don’t do anything with our feedback (you can only send it along and wait until those responsible do something with it), but rather the other departments.
The feedback on hte landing page isn’t new. It’s been more than a year now since we started giving feedback on it, and nothing has changed. What is easier than simply turning it back?
At the risk of sounding repetitive here:
Give us back the control of our own page. Right now it seems WE, the CREATORS are NOT your customers, but instead OUR patrons are YOUR customers. While in essence they are OUR customers, NOT yours. WE are YOUR customers. After all, WE pay YOU with the conversion fees and the fees for the plans. It is after all deducted from the pledges patrons give to US. That defines pretty much what a customer is.
And thus, it’d be far more logical if we had the control back on our own page.
Again, you cannot help it. All you can do is give our feedback to the responsible departments. But we (I’ve seen many creators express this feeling, hence the “we”) feel like those responsible departments are not listening in any way.
It’s nice that our concerns get passed along, but if they are never acted on or responded to in a reasonable amount of time (and we’ve waited a long time) then being heard doesn’t have much value. There should be responses to the community coming out of those meetings.
Are any of these beta tests aimed at the landing page? If so, I suspect you have a few people here who would be interested in participating. The way I look at it, I’m unhappy with how it is now, so I’m not terribly worried about the risks of trying something new. Even if just a few of us participated, it would be a visible response. That would be a huge step forward.
Nudge. Unanswered question.
Hey @neil, thanks for the nudge. We currently do not have any betas in the works for the landing page. I’m pushing hard to provide more transparency about what we’re working on and what is coming in the new year. Look out for messaging in the coming weeks! We’ll have many exciting things to share.
4 months after this response still nothing?
So much for communication and transparency.
it’s best to lower your expectations when it comes to quality of life improvements on patreon. and by lower, i mean absolutely obliterate them.
After almost 5 years on the platform now, I’ve come to expect absolutely nothing.
Well, except features I don’t want, and other integrations that just end up costing me more.
Hi there everyone,
After reading through the whole thread, I want to express a deep gratitude for all the thoughtful feedback you all gave us during the design studio and rounds of iteration. We have a team who are looking into creator landing pages and how we can give creators more flexibility and control over the landing pages, and all of this feedback is where they’ll kick off that research.
Best,
Brian
we do appreciate that you’ve been going thru and responding to our suggestions over the past years, and i know how angry and frustrated we sound in these posts. and i am glad that the clunky, outdated landing page is finally getting some much needed attention. we’ve been needing an update on this since 2019 and our user experiences have been declining for two years since then. so i hope that genuine and thoughtful updates for our loudest complaints are a priority.
i’ve also been using patreon for 5 years, and my experience has gone from generally pleasant at the beginning to extremely stressful and hopeless as of late. actually seeing more staff respond is reigniting the tiniest spark of hope but staff has done the same to us in the past, promised countless updates and communication, and still left us hanging.
