"Clone" or "Copy" a previous post?

I might be totally missing this, but is there a quick and easy way to “Clone” or “Copy” a previous post?

I do this for my WordPress blog all the time and it is such a huge time saver!

An example of this function in use:

When I post a Rewards Update, the top image, the tags, and even part of the body of the post (the opening and the closing) remain the same from month to month.

So on WordPress, I would just go to a previous post on the topic, click “copy to new draft” and boom, 80% of the work is already done. I delete whatever isn’t needed for the new post, write the new update, and am done in much less time.

Is this a thing in the Patreon posts system I’m missing? If not, I humbly suggest it for a future update. It’s a HUGE time saver!

Thank you @BrianJamesFreeman for this idea! I can totally see how this would save you time. Can I ask what kind of posts you’re looking to clone? Is it text, URLs, tags, etc?

I love this idea. I’d personally use it for things like weekly update posts where the title, image, and basic tags are always the same, as well as some language in the post that remains the same week to week (but so I could add more information to that post for that particular week).

@mindy I’m thrilled @CindyGB summed up how I would use the feature in WAY fewer words than I would use, ha! I tend to ramble. But yes, the “clone a post” or “copy a post” feature is just a huge timesaver in situations like she describes. I think a lot of people would benefit from it, even if they don’t realize it yet.

Also, thank you @mindy for asking about all of these ideas and requests people have!

Of course! I’m happy to hear them and be the middlewoman between creators and product team

*this was the best GIF for teamwork I could find!

I just wanted to bump this because I think it would be a huge help for a lot of people, most of whom don’t even realize how much help it would be… yet.

Until I had the “clone a post to a new draft” function on WordPress, I had no idea how much I needed it!

Thanks again for everything you do!!

I love this idea! I give out my gallery rewards with DropBox links. So I used to make a post, then go in and edit it each month to change a bit of the text (change January to February for example) and then replace the link.

I think it would also be useful to do a monthly recap or newsletter post where it would copy over the footer of links and instructions, then I could focus on the actual update part.

As it is, I just have a bunch of stuff I have to copy paste in Evernote. It’s not a really big deal, but duplicating posts would be really helpful as it would include tags and such too. :slightly_smiling_face:

I LOVE this idea! I post monthly reminders to patrons about perks and a copy/clone button so I can just schedule a new post would be wonderful!

Yep, that is exactly the sort of thing I’d love to have this feature for. It’s a great time saver.

I just wanted to bump this thread to see if there had been any news on this front…

I know this might not be a “a major feature” that people are clamoring for, but I suspect a lot of creators would make good use of the feature once they had it.

Kind of a “wow, I wish I had this years ago” sort of thing!

I know this might not be a “top issue” for most people, but since one of the things I do is post a serial novel for my supporters and this would save me several hours of post set-up time over the course of the year, I just wanted to bump this again. Thank you!

Yeah I’d like to know if this is on the roadmap! I stopped doing certain post types because i had to re-input all the header images each time and it just took up so much of my time without the ability to clone/copy something I’d previously done and have the formatting and images stay.

Maybe I’ve been spoiled by WordPress having this feature for so long, but I suspect there are A LOT of creators on Patreon who don’t know how much they would LOVE to have this function… but once they have it, they’ll wonder how they lived without it!

Could this be considered a Template, technically? because that would be super cool. I always copy-paste the same instructions on the same type of regular posts, so it would be very useful!

Yep! This feature would save me SO MUCH time… and I suspect MOST creators would be able to save at least some time, they just don’t know it yet.

Bump it up! Please make it possible to clone, copy, or make templates for posts. :grinning:

I heard we’re supposed to be making individual threads for our requests, so I thought I’d bump this idea again… This features saves me HOURS each month in WordPress, so it would be great to see it show up in Patreon!
