I think a LOT of previously pledged patrons would be reminded/excited seeing a few public posts now and again. Would think they would convert back to paying patrons. Right now, I’d have to import their email addresses into a newsletter service of some kind, but if I could just flag “send to all previous patrons” for public posts I think it’d be super helpful. Most patrons don’t bother using the “follow” feature.
Unless they changed their email settings, they should still be a follower of yours due to a bug (or “feature”).
interesting! I’ll look into this. still, would be good to know with 100% certainty who is getting an email and who is not.
I agree, I’d appreciate it if it was more clearly laid out.
@sambeawesome Strangely enough, in my experience, when folks cancel thier pledge, patreon seems to make them unfollow you?? I’ve had to walk a few old patrons through ensuring they are still following my work in the past and it’s also done it to me when I’ve had to stop pledging to someone. I’ve had to go back and follow them again. I havent had to check this in a while though so hopefully it’s fixed now. (I did make some reports about it and how cancelling a pledge shouldn’t unfollow as those are two very seperate things but I never got a response on it so who knows lol.) But it seems we’ve had very different hiccups with the site. XD
Either way though, @Iamthesam, it super depends on the person’s audience but lots of folks do follow to get public updates and you can talk about this in your wording on social media to encourage folks to follow for your free content, which for some, helps a lot. Might be worth a try. I know a lot of folks that follow for free content but your audience may just need reminding.
Last I was aware, you can see who follows you, in the patreon manager. You wont be able to see thier email settings but it’s a start. I also sometimes DM past patrons with offers they might be interested in, like if I’m opening more spots on a limited tier, and it also has helped bring folks back.
Oh maybe I have it mixed up? You might be right that it auto unfollows. Too many things to keep up with, it gets a little confusing with this site xD
Edit:
Though it would be nice to have an option to have a “welcome message” but for people who unsub, just as an opportunity to remind them to follow elsewhere (or even on Patreon) to keep up to date, even if they can’t/don’t want to support anymore.
