Patreon Product Ideas

The feature I would like most right now would be to get the Featured Tags section onto the app. I have a bunch of Patrons who do not have desktops or laptops so they can only use mobile to get their stuff, and it’s frustrating to tell everyone that some of their rewards are being kept in those Featured Tags sections for if they missed out on release day, but a section of my Patrons can’t see it. Featured Tags has been out for almost a year now and Patreon has updated their app since then but with no Featured Tags, so I’m hoping you guys are working on this soon? I can’t imagine it would take a lot of coding even for a small team

I believe it’s been mentioned before, but I don’t see it.

One thing I’d like to see is a mass tag editor. Something that allows you to view posts en masse (maybe an option to limit it to titles just so it loads faster, sorta like an archive?) and to rapidly apply or replace tags on them. Or some kind of quick-edit option that allows you to just change text fields, not pictures, links, or attachments without having to open up a new page.

Additionally, it’s been mentioned, but ways to store popular tags you use so you can consistently apply them would also be good.

Tags are a nice feature that I frequently see new patrons using them, but I feel like they’re not living up to their potential yet.

Lots of great ideas/requests around tags/featured tags in the community! Will make sure yours gets added to the list I’ve been sharing with the product team. Thanks, @Zedrin!

Love this so we can reward early adopters and late adopters in fair order

Love Patreon and I love how easy it is to deal with. Here are my suggestions based on problems I faced trying to integrate my site with Patreon.

I would love to see a patreon WordPress plugin to assign account membership roles in WordPress matching the roles in patreon. Then we sure could do magic with all sorts of preexisting WordPress plugins. I have to live with what the current plugins allow and manage with a general user type.

But if we can know if the user already paid that would help too. Right now I am trying to integrate my WordPress with patreon because I want my site members to get rewarded with points based on their pledges on a monthly basis, which are quite useful to reward early adopters with seperate rewards set. Since I have no access to upfront payment it became impossible to do so, since they can cheat the system by switching their rewards before end of month.

@ellie If it is not too much to ask, can you request the upfront payment for my account?

Hey Ali,

Have you already checked out the integrations available in our new app directory? Might find what you’re looking for.

Regarding charge upfront: just requested this for you. Will let you know when you might expect to see it on your account!

Hey all! I’m closing this thread so that these feature requests/ideas are a bit easier to track. Instead of posting a comment to an already-existing thread, feel free to start a new one (after first checking to see it’s not already created).

Hello, some suggestions to add!

  • Custom Speed for podcast/videos (.5x/1x/1.5x/2x) slow and fast
  • Instant payments when people sign up (needs to come faster)
  • Text add on new Snap Photo feature

I offer voting strength on several of my patreons(I run 3). If you support at all, 1 vote, $5, 2 votes, and usually around $15, 3 votes worth of strength behind what you vote in the polls. Can this be supported, pretty please? It would save so much time if it was.

Are we using this thread to consolidate our ideas in one place again?

Something occurred to me today that I don’t recall being mentioned before (please forgive me if it has and I missed it or forgot). Would it be possible to at some point have a campaign that is BOTH monthly and per thing? Am I the only one who could see a use for it?

What I mean is, let’s say I want my lower tier(s) to be monthly. This would be the basic stuff that I am able to easily provide. For example: $1 tier is access to my patron only blog and early access to artwork or just a “hey you want to support me and that’s cool” kind of thing. $5 tier could be livestream access plus all at the lower tier. And then upper tier(s) would be per thing. Example: A $10 reward tier limited to 1 patron for a patron request sketch. This way the patron wouldn’t be charged until the item is complete and once it is, the creator can ask the patron if they want another sketch at that level or suggest they join as an ongoing supporter at one of the lower levels. Then the creator could open the tier up. In this way they could do as many or as few of these type thing as they were able/wanted.

Why? I’ve noticed a lot of creators feel guilt over not being able to provide enough content to justify monthly and a lot of others worry that they may make things that are “not good enough” to charge for and then end up going a while without any pay and at the same time not getting regular recurring pay. The patron side is that some patrons just want to give ongoing support and don’t care about the rewards, while others are looking for the best rewards for their pledge and might not want to be charged until they have the reward fulfilled.

For someone like me who has other obligations outside of Patreon this would help me build a small, steady stream of income, while allowing some of the flexibility of a per thing campaign.

Yep, I feel like it’s much easier for the Patreon team, unless it’s a specific topic! I’ll be migrating things into this from time to time.

Hmm, that’s an interesting question about per thing AND monthly. I do know that the fulfillment manager should help with some of these (say, someone has to pledge for x months at y dollar amount to get something). But it sounds like what you’re asking is slightly different. This is really interesting!

I’d love a way to instead of pledges be charged at what is essentially the end of a month long cycle of content, if a new pledge joins be charged then to see content, even if it is at some discounted rate i.e. joined May 15th so is only charged half the month’s pledge amount or something like that. I’ve noticed in my case, as I post content throughout the month and do not do paid posts because I enjoy posting and don’t think it’s fair to charge multiple times a month for content, I will get pledges and after they’ve seen their share of content will cancel. Sometimes this is because they’re satisfied and leave, but mostly it’s I’ve noticed it at the end of the month, they will cancel so they don’t get charged and have seen all that top tier content for free sadly. I’ve seen my monthly earnings go from a projected 1900 and tank to 1350 due to last minute cancels and declines. But I don’t believe in punishing my faithful pledges for people like that by going to paid posts.

I’d suggest loading more content towards the end of the month then.
It has a tendency to discourage Patrons from dropping, as most of their content comes out right before they get charged. It’s an effective tactic, and almost a must for those of us charging monthly.

We have to remember that we are a non-essential expenditure for most people. If anyone needs to shave a few dollars off of their monthly expenses, you can count on any sort of artistic support to be dropped first. Also, Patrons support isn’t considered charity either, so outside of what you offer, there is little incentive for Patrons to stay if they need to cut their expenses.

Make sure there’s a good reason not to drop your support at the end of the month. Regardless, it’s going to happen. But, it’s up to you as a creator to notice the patterns and adjust your content schedule, methods, or rewards accordingly.

Yeah, what I mean is having a per month patronage available that would be a steady and sustainable income, but also have reward tier that is “per thing”. Let’s say I suddenly had a lot of time open up during the month and instead of doing one commission type reward, I found I had time for five or twenty. If that particular reward tier were per thing I could do that. And if the next month I didn’t have time to do anything for that tier, no one signed up for that one would be charged and I wouldn’t feel guilty, but I would still have the income from the other per month tiers.

It’s interesting I brought this up yesterday because I just noticed Amanda Palmer (who has her Patreon set up as per thing) made a post about charging her patrons once a month regardless of there being a thing or not and then charging again if there was a “thing” later in the month so she would still be getting paid even if there wasn’t an actual “thing” for the month because there is just so much of the preparing for a thing work to be done. She’s kind of found a work around so she can have a reliable monthly income in addition to the per thing things. I don’t know if any of that made a bit of sense. I had to read her post twice to understand what she was saying.

I’d like to add followers to this. There are times I run polls open for everyone in an effort to get more overall involvement and I’d like for patron votes to count more heavily than followers. I’d like to assign the weight as I can now see my number of followers and would want patrons to be the majority deciding factor.

I love that idea! I could double all the strengths I offer, letting random-passer-bys get 1 vote. So 1 vote for random, 2 for actual patrons, 4, 6, etc.

Yes. This would be amazing to have!

I don’t currently see a way to not get emails when people message me. Is there a setting I’m missing? Right now, the ONLY email I should be getting is new patrons – but I get new DMs too.
