Patreon Product Ideas

Oh, you can block other Patreon pages! My mistake, thanks for pointing it out!

A feature I’d like to see is the ability to grant patron status to a non paying patron. I have people who support my work by doing things like IT, web development, and administering forums, rather than giving money. I’d like to be able to grant them patron status and give them access to things like early postings of videos and podcasts.

Oh yes, I agree. It’s a pain to even think about having to run another page for the same group.

When adding tags to a post, I don’t get to see tags I’m already using. If I can’t quite remember whether, for example, the tag I want is “video” or “videos”, I have to open up a new tab and find my tag list, or perhaps keep a written list next to my PC.

I’d like to see either a Twitter-style autocomplete, or a Blogger-style clickable list near the input field (click on the tag to add it to the post).

Please please please give us the option to have more than one image in a post. Perhaps how tumblr has their setup? It’s extremely stunting for visual artists to only be able to give one image per post, and for blogs where you want to show off something.

Also I know quite a few of us do private Patreon streams/Q&As/Hangouts, but sites that let you have private streams are lacking. Perhaps a setup deal with one of those sites to fix that? Or even an in-house Patreon Stream to certain tiers?

And I know it’s on the way, but still waiting for the instant money accepting option. Patreon ghosting is such a horrible problem and is completely terrifying when you rely on your income. Also witholding reqards until the month after sucks for the supporter.

Thanks so much for these great suggestions! Will make sure these are all considered as we improve tagging. Glad you dig the feature.

Hey Buttons, thank for the suggestions!

You CAN post multiple images on posts–it’s just not the most intuitive way (you’ll want to use the HTML editor).

Livestreaming is definitely something we’re looking at from multiple angles (both in-house and more integration/partnership-based, so keep an eye out for updates on this soon!)

I can enable charging upfront on your account today if you’d like! You’ll just want to note that this is only available for “monthly” creators and you cannot revert the change once it’s enabled. Let me know if you’d like me to do this for you!

Oh yeah, I forgot HTML was a thing- I’ve tried it before and I kept messing up the post so bad though. ;-; Also I’m so happy on the livestreaming part! They’re seemed to be a service built for Private Streams a little while back but it’s closed now.

Oh my gosh, really? Yes please! You’re a star thank you so much. I’m assuming it charges upfront the first time then first of the month the rest?

Love it! Thank you

@tal @ellie - I just thought of another idea regarding the feature tags concept, and there can be a short-term and long-term implementation. The idea is from the announcement that twitch made the other day about revamping their landing page.

Short term - Implement Patreon featured tags which could be positioned on the top menu, a total of 5, that operates like a Creator’s featured tags. Clicking on them would bring you to all creator posts with that tag. To be fair, and help new creators, I think it would be cool to try out random tag selection. But like twitch, you could adjust how people see those with a script that can start small with random selection, or just change it up. But definitely not intentional selection of individual creators.

Long term - Make a twitch-style home page with similar features to Instagram (it’s all about the art, in any form ) can include those featured tags, a tag browser, similar featured artist like you have now, creation of the day, etc. The possibilities are endless, and when people go to patreon.com, they will know what we are all about in a whole new way

Hey everyone,

Does anyone else agree that this community interface is FANTASTIC! I feel like we are in a Beta for when they release this style to replace the current community tab. It would be so awesome to be able to have individual communities just like this for our Patrons! It would bring each community to a whole new level of creative.

I mean the scrolling timeline, all replies on one page, the topic setup, the formatting capabilities, and just creativity at it’s best. I can see this style being ultra versatile with other social media integration, setting up badges, tags, profiles, admin levels. It’s like everything I imagined and more. The Patreon staff have taken the concepts of many platforms and combined them into genius.

I know the team has plenty on their plate but thought I’d share what was on my mind. I know this would take some epic-hardcore coding, if only it were copy/paste

right there with you, @teamradious! I think I actually made this suggestion (and suggested the patreon post mechanism use this editor) and found out that the community site is a heavily customizable forum package, which is why it wasn’t implemented as such. either way, if there were a way to bring it over, I support it!

Please, this is so important. I also have several tags, and I always get confused. It is “Ken Arrow” “ken arrow” “prof arrow” “arrow”?
Also would be good to have those tags ordered by number of times we have used them.

Apologise if this is already possible. I don’t think it is. Right now if people register with facebook, Pareon takes the address from facebook. But people have at times multiple email addresses. And some send the mail from facebook on email addresses they don’t usually follow. In short there is the need for Patrons to associate multiple email addresses and chose which one should be active. Or even better: which one should be active from this creator.

Thanks.

I’d like to chip in and say that I’d also be interested in seeing a feature like the one wiredforstereo requested. I’d love to be able to offer patreon access to people who report bugs with the public version of my game, especially if I could set it to automatically expire after a certain time so I could offer e.g. a month for a minor bug report. It would also be useful to do the same thing to existing patrons by boosting them to a higher reward tier for a limited time without them being charged extra.

Actually, I would like to see multiple images upload function with autoscale in preview =)

That’s an interesting idea for creator discovery. For a counter-perspective (always in flux!) our mindset is that given all the options for us to work on, discovery works so well on other platforms (like twitch, youtube, instagram, deviantart, twitter, etc) that creators have that problem mostly solved, and we should focus on helping them engage/get paid with those that have become their passionate fans and community (as a general criteria for initiatives). Small “secret” is that the explore page was built with creators in mind, to help them discover one another and learn from each others’ approaches

Hello! Is there any way to change comment settings so that most comments are not automatically hidden behind a “Load more comments” barrier? When I have large posts with a lot of different discussion threads going on, it makes it inconvenient to follow them when I have to open them all again every time I reload the page. If there is already a way to do this, please let me know!

Set “Free” Access for current user

The idea is simple.
While you are creator, you have an option to set view rights to any user as if he were your supporter.

Why:

  • Sometimes users who can’t support you via petreon, can support you via something else. It would be fair to give them same view rights.
  • Somethimes you are not the only one who are working on the project. There could be digital artist, musican, writer, 3d disighner… It’s nice when they all can get access to the page of project they are working on.
  • Sometimes some users can’t support you with money, but doing a lot of usefull thigs. It would be fair to give them same view rights too.
  • And so on, and so on…
  • Also, this is awesome thing to promote your page. Anyway people becoming real patrons to see what’s next.

How:

  • Adding an option (see img) not only to block, but also to give an access.
  • Then choosing a reward level (due to what reward you have on your page)
  • Then selecting a period of this access (example 1 month) as if it would be [Number][Period]
where number can be any from 1 to 999
period is [days] or [weeks] or [months]
  • After doing so, current user would have view rights according to the reward level.
He will also recive a mail where told that he recived this awesome access
  • Number of patrons won’t change
  • You can always stop giving an access

I was going to suggest it as well, I have the exact same problem! We really need either an autofill or a list of our tags when writing a new post.
