Hey @DiogoTomas, I’m so sorry I’m just seeing this! There are security risks involved with this, but it’s definitely on our radar as something to address.
If you could only substitute “pledge” to “login”, when patrons click to see the locked post (when following the email link) would solve a lot! Thank you for the reply, @ellie!
Thanks so much for specifying, @Diogo! I’ve shared this with the team that is working on patron engagement at Patreon.
Short answer: Email List-ish type thing, but kinda different.
SO: I follow several people on patreon and get their emails, which is incredibly useful way of keeping up on JUST their work and updates. And every time I get an email, I am also getting prompted to become a patron every single time they put out work, because I have a patreon email about them in my inbox.
I think we need ways of getting people into this tier of “support.”
For instance, this could be accomplished via a “sign up for updates” field on a website that essentially registers a user on Patreon (or takes them to a login page if the email is already registered) and adds the target account to their (brand spanking new or existing) follow list. Then they get emails when new work is posted as well as a prompt to become a patron.
This would also introduce a user to the Patreon ecosystem, which would end up being useful for both the user in their search for new content and for Patreon. It would have to have a different landing page than just their Dashboard after the signup action is completed, something that explains what is going on, but I think this would be a tremendously useful tool for keeping people in the loop about new work as well as attracting new patrons.
The live feature is super buggy for me, and didn’t work at all how I expected.
It would be cool if you could “go live” on the web (email Patrons in addition to Push notifications?) and it was a chatbox or something similar for AMAs. Only 15% of my Patrons have the app, and many of the remainder don’t support other creators on Patreon (mine is super niche, so I could see why), so they aren’t going to download the app for one Creator (me!) for occasional AMAs.
Every time I use the “Live” feature, it shows me as online for a minute or two and then turns itself off. The comments folks post while I am live don’t show up on my phone, and I have to sit here with my laptop to see them and reply while simultaneously touching my screen on my phone so it doesn’t push me offline. Being able to “go live” on a computer and have it work as a chat-type feature would be amazing.
Hey Kenna, thanks so much for sharing this feedback–this sounds like way too much trouble to go live! I’ve passed this along to our patron engagement team, who will likely be working on improving this feature very soon.
Actually, Kenna–would you mind letting me know which version of the app you’re using (ios or android)? One of our mobile engineers believes that what you’re experiencing is definitely a bug and something that we can fix.
If there are any additional steps that are taking that you think might be helpful in reproducing, that would be great to have as well.
It’s the Android version. I have a Droid Turbo 2, running Android Build 24.31.22.en.US. Most recent update of the Patreon app.
I hope it’s a bug because it drives me nuts!
Thanks so much! A mobile engineer is taking a look now.
I replied to one of your posts already and mentioned that I’m horrible at writing and expressing myself in written language.
But I will try my best! So here is an idea I thought of:
If a backer manage to get another person to back our projects - that first backers can level up to a new “Reward”.
For example:
Rewards:
1$ - Thanks (<— Jhon is supporting me with 1$/month)
2$ - access to my online portfolio
4$ - access to my Demo.
etc etc etc
Now, If Jhon tell Tim to support me with 1$/month, Jhon will gain access to the 2$ Reward, even if he only support me with 1$ - but thanks to Jhon, I now have 2 supporters instead of one, and 2$ instead of 1$.
So its a win-win for both me, as a creator, and Jhon for supporting me
This is an interesting concept that would encourage patrons to do some of the promoting for you. I did something similar to this for one of my promotions. I only tried it out for a month when I was just starting and it didn’t work at the time, but it might if it were something all patrons were aware of and were always available. Not sure how this would work for limited tiers.
Speaking of limited tiers, it would be neat if there were a way to be notified if one became available. Let’s say someone had a $50 reward that was limited to one different patron per month and I wanted the reward but cannot afford to pay $50/month until it becomes available. If I chose to be notified, I’d get an email as soon as the other patron dropped and could choose if I am still interested to get in before someone else did. A notification for limited tiers might help creators keep those slots filled as well.
I was just thinking yesterday that it would be awesome to have some kind of referral system for Patrons. I’ve referred a handful of new Creators (only one used the darn referral system though), and it would be awesome to also give Patrons the ability.
Even if it was just a Bonus Reward for making X referrals or something. As both a Patron of other Creators and Creator myself, I know I’d be more motivated to promote Creators if I got something extra from them as a thank you. (Even though, let’s be honest, I promote them anyways. )
Might be nice if it were a limited time bump in rewards. Say someone refers a new patron, they go up a level for the month. They refer two people, they go up two levels and so on. At the end of the month they may like their bonus reward tier so much they up their own pledge or they actively try to recruit more patrons.
I agree, I think it would be great if it was more obvious that it is possible to follow creators without pledging, I think many people don’t know about that. Also would be great if we could see how many and who follows us.
I would like an automated way to keep track of each of my patrons’ total pledge, so they can get rewards when they hit milestones – you can see an example below. This is to encourage them to stay on the long term.
Because I don’t have a lot of patrons, I can keep track of this manually, checking each time I get money if someone is supposed to get something, but I would love it if Patreon could screen this itself and give me a breakdown of who hit which milestone.
This is great @Lochy. I think if done right this would be tremendous help.
@kenna this is similar to the simple affiliate program that teachable.com uses. Any student in a given course can be made an affiliate if the creator chooses to assign it. There are pros and cons to it in their scenario for sure, but many less cons with a scenario like Patreon. I could definitely see this as being beneficial.
Hi Ellie,
I made this suggestion via e-mail before, but i think it doesn’t hurt to post it here as well.
A in-built poll system could be a great way to interact with the patrons, with it we could ensure that only patrons would be able to vote and impact our creations, with web poll sites there is always the risk of the link to the poll leaking and non-patron voting for it as well.
Hey Sabu, so happy to hear about your excitement for this, as it is almost done being built.
Really!? that’s awesome! i didn’t knew it was on the works! that’s great news! thank you
