Reading some of the other threads here does not make me feel optimistic this will be seen and responded to by Patreon staff, but it’s worth a shot.
I’m not sure if I’m part of a beta or not, but I noticed this morning that my support went from an exact dollar amount to an abbreviated rounded amount.
I expect (hope) that this change was made based on some testing, but I’d like to say I’m not happy with it. It is not uncommon for new and long-time patrons to increase their level of support to tip the dollar amount over the next $100, and especially over the next $1000 mark. This removes that incentive while offering (as far as I can tell) very little benefit.
If I wanted to obscure the amount of support I was getting, I’d just remove it from being visible, altogether.
I have noticed this too, i really would prefer it to reflect an actual amount so I can see at a glance if things are up or down - not having to go into notifications and actually spend time checking if it was 100 declines, or unsubs or whatever. Mine is set to private - why do they need to abbreviate it for me and my own personal viewing anyway? so odd. Just another example of changes we didn’t ask for and the ones we wanted once again ignored I guess
Gumroad seem to be listening, we might migrate totally over there. I know my patreon platform fees only make up %10 of an average patreon employees wages of US$248,000 so they really don’t care what I think, but i’d rather a system that doesnt charge me at all and delivers whats asked of them
This is great feedback and I will be sure to note this down to our product team!
I can definitely understand the need to have the full number listed out for both your patrons and your internal use. That said, the public facing number is an estimation and not an exact figure to go by when looking for earnings internally. You can refer to this article here for more information this and other numbers on Patreon.
Quick follow up - looks like this was a bug on our end that has since been resolved and that rounding will only start to happen when you make one million or more per month
Thank you, Evan, for the quick update. I’m not sure who’s making $1 million+ per month, but I imagine once you are at that level, a little rounding would make sense.
