but why would you pay money for something that already exists for free but in a worse, less functional version of the product.
Wait⦠doesnāt this mean that a bunch of folks are going to get notifications to go see something thatās been auto-deleted?
Patrons only get notified when there is content available. Itās possible that they could get to a notification late after the content has disappeared, but we find that most people click on the the notifications within 24hours if they are going to click on them at all.
Patrons can control what notifications they receive in the app.
Exactly.
I do agree that it is definitely not great for functionality atm. I could be wrong but i didnāt see this really get any user beta testing as usually features like that are announced in some capacity and we know its in beta but i didnāt see that for this. Probably could have used it/more/larger testing base/something, before public release.
It also is extremely unfair for those not using the mobile app. However, i can see it being useful to have it integrated. People pay creators for their content and this is now an interesting option to show more and different kinds of content, buggy or not. Using a separate service means no direct patreon only locks and it also requires your userbase to sign up for yet another service to view it. Not everyone uses snapchat. They just need to make this also browser available as well because only a portion of users even use the patreon app (which is also buggy as heck for a lot of us.)
While i donāt use Lens, i think its a neat idea for those who have projects that can use this kind of functionality. Not everyone runs their projects the same and while you and I may not use it or want it, we arenāt the only people using this platform.
Itād be lovely for multiple Lens updates to appear next to each other instead of all being clumped into one circle so people can know thereās more than one to check out.
Also is it possible to see the Lens posts on a computer or is this just mobile app only?
Right now mobile only - but web is something we want to do too.
it looks like itās available on the web now as well, THANK YOU for this. They still have to download the app to get notifications but it is still a great perk for my patrons! THX AGAIN!
Lens is available on Web for all creators and patrons starting today!
I would killlllll to have Lens be an option for specific tiers. That was the whole idea I had planned for when it launched. Any thoughts on making this available as an option in the future?
One of my patrons has been searching in vain for a way to turn off email notifications of new lens uploads and canāt find it. Is there one? She doesnāt want emails at all, and already has all those notifications off.
I am trying and having not much luck with Lens. One of my patrons asked what it was, and I explained, and finished, āI am pretty sure itās supposed to appeal to the snapchat generation that likes ephemeral content.ā
To which their response was: āI thought the snapchat market was āephemeral conversation with your friendsā not ādisappearing content from someone youāre payingā.ā
So⦠Iām not sure that metaphor is working. How are you pitching Lens to your patrons in a way that makes them care about it? Because Iām not having any luck selling this Great New Feature that they got instead of the ones theyāve been asking me for. :,
@haikujaguar Please refer your patron to this: https://patreon.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001276991-How-do-I-view-Lens-on-web-
Halfway down the page are instructions for disabling notifications.
Ah - and these are great questions about lens in general. I think the thing is that itās supposed to be a quick way to connect. It may not be a fit for every creator and every patron.
Any update on not sending patrons a barrage of notifications everyday? I just lost a $20 patron who said they were getting too many notifications. I donāt want to do more lens content only to lose patrons.
I do a post every few months for patrons about how to change their email notifications but sending someone more than one email a day does not seem to make sense at all.
Thanks for the feedback and sharing your frustrations. I checked with the team and we send a notification for each Lens a Creator posts. Patrons can opt out of receiving them, however, a patron has to de-select this option from their email notifications page for each individual creator. It seems like you should be able to do this in the app, but I canāt see an option to toggle this on/off so Iāll file a bug report.
Thanks Mindy!
