Income Plateau & 15 Character Title Requirement is Excessive

Thanks for sharing about your experience! I’m sorry it’s not working out, but the information is helpful for all of us to know.

I agree with what you’re saying about people who never intend to become patrons. At some point, it’s not worth pursuing them.

At the same time, I recently asked an old friend why she wasn’t supporting me and it was a really useful conversation–super awkward too, of course! But still worthwhile. She explained that there was a simple resistance to just doing the thing, signing up on the Patreon platform. Also, the thought of it being a monthly charge was a thing too–having to take that into account for her budgeting. She made a suggestion for another reward I might offer: the $15 pledge for a half hour art career consultation. The new reward has gotten me some new supporters AND my friend ended up pledging!

I have offered one-on-one tutorials and sessions for people to pick my brain on how i work, market myself, techniques, etc but didn’t get very far with them. I certainly enjoy doing them and making that connection but it didn’t seem like my particular audience was too interested. I’m certainly thinking about trying it again for the new year though since it has been a while. Perhaps re-brand it and try a different approach to marketing it.

I’ll be sure to report my findings! (I do regular mini research projects on various artists on and off patreon to get insight on how they market themselves, trends, etc. So if i find anything of note, I’ll pop it in here)
