Would be helpful to state that next time so people understand that you are aware that you can watch the replay but may not be able to. A lot of the rest of us have to go and watch the replays ourselves and is a good resource to have and know of.
I also find that time is a real issue, and having to get info from an hour-long video is not an efficient way to do it. I did watch parts of this one, and from what I understood they were saying that there was some problem with the database processing very slowly. They had to do a bunch of technical stuff to fix it, and they don’t expect this particular problem to recur, though they can’t promise that there won’t be other problems in the future. They did try to emphasize that the technical end of things is rather complicated, and there are various things that can go wrong . . .
As for the issue of hang times, I would REALLY appreciate it if the info were to be offered in written form that could be scanned.
A recap of the hang time should really be put in the monthly newsletter from Taryn or something. With links or listed times in the video where each topic is talked about so people can skip to whats important to them.
@mindy
That really would be helpful to those of us who can’t just watch an hour-long video.
We normally do send an email out, just like that in fact here’s a screenshot of the one from last month. Taryn has not been very well recently but I’ll double check to see if she has sent out the one from Feb yet.

Note: this only goes out to people who register on Crowdcast as we got feedback that Patreon sends a lot of marketing emails and creators already have so much going on - this is why I encourage you all to register every month to be included in these kinds of emails
We have to register every month though? A lot of us are subscribed to the creator emails and the monthly recap emails that get sent out really should have these in them or a link to the information just because it really does usually affect us because it has important stuff that is addressed in them. (Also, you don’t have to register to participate in the crowdcast, you can just grab one of the links and go, so this should be a little clearer if its a crowdcast only thing, listed or mentioned in the hang time notifications or something.)
I find it harder to keep up with you guys just simply because there are so many avenues to get updates that aren’t all in one place. (The emails, the blog(s), crowdcast, etc, of course not to mention the places like this, the discord, etc. But the official outgoing newsletters really should have a clearer list of where to find more info.)
Apologies, I should have made that clear - once you’ve signed up for one Hang Time on Crowdcast, you should get all the emails about Hang Time - please let me know if that’s not happening.
I hear you on this one and this is good feedback I will take to the marketing team. Sometimes in trying to provide the right info to all the channels where people are and prefer to get their news, it can feel like there are too many avenues to check. We will think about how we can streamline this to make it simpler.
I’ve only received one for a couple and I’ve been signed up for a while. Nothing for the last one if that was sent out.
I know some newsletter platforms allow people to subscribe once bu specify which specific groups within they want to get news about but I’m not sure that would work for you guys
From what I’ve experienced, people generally just don’t do the legwork to check to see how to get things in general from websites, whether it be registering on things, making accounts, checking boxes to allow certain stuff to go through, etc.
People are generally (again from my experience, this may not be what statistics show) reactive rather than proactive; trying to get people to sign up for something before they get it (in this case, Hang Time emails) is a lot harder for both you and them than just sending them something they may not want (said Hang Time emails), and then they just click a button or link to opt out of it.
You’ll get a few people who’ll be upset, but the vast majority of people won’t mind being reactive and opting out, and you’ll get far, far more people who will actually want to tune into these who just literally don’t know they exist because the only interaction they have with Patreon is updates from their favorite creators and that’s it.
So what I’d suggest would be if Patreon made another email account, something like "HangTimePatreonUpdates@Patreon.com", but send it out to everyone who’s registered on Patreon, or at the very least, creators, regardless of whether they signed up for Crowdcast or not.
Having it this way means that if people aren’t into Hang Time, you can simply have a link at the bottom of the post that will let people opt out of getting those particular emails specifically about Hang Time, but won’t block them from getting other emails from normal Patreon notifications, preventing them from missing out on anything they’re already getting in their email.
This also would let people create a filter if they wanted on their email account to specifically filter out Hang Time emails into another folder of theirs so that they could make sure not to miss the Hang Time updates (another reactive behavior).
Might be a pain to do this, but I think it’d help a lot of people not miss out on these emails.
Could even expand it to multiple other avenues, like having an email account just for account suspensions/warnings sent out from Patreon to people who have been suspended so it doesn’t go into their spam if they’ve marked normal messages from Patreon into spam because they’re a user with a ton of notifications/backers, or having one just for people commenting/messaging you on Patreon that they could separate from new backers joining or vice versa, etc.
