Delete (not block) patrons

I’m still hoping for this. In my case, I really want it for declined Patrons. I had one guy sitting on there for months declined. It just feels frustrating that we can’t delete people. I’d even be cool with a feature that allows us to delete, but then refunds their pledge for that month. In my case, since they’re declined, it would be nothing anyway.

yes, yes, yes
a million times yes

Please let us delete patrons again without having to block them. I don’t understand why it was ever removed in the first place.

please patreon, i have a few declines i want to be free of. one is a relative that’s been gone for years, but there still counted under tier numbers. it would be really rude to block/ report them just to do a little spring cleaning.

and why even send a message to the blocked person? that’s just going to ramp up more harassment between arguing groups and then what if blocking doesn’t stop the hate flowing in?

I have no idea who even came up with that feature. This website, in all my years online, is the only one that actually informs the blocked person that they’ve been blocked. It’s so beyond outrageous. As mentioned, if there are legitimate concerns of a creator and they need to block someone, depending on the situation, Patreon could escalate the issue to where it threatens the safety of that creator. I literally cannot believe this is something that passed through enough meetings to implement it.

And yes, let us just delete patrons. It’s gotten to the point where this is so stupid for us to still not be able to do.

I want to weigh in here too (again) I have a couple of former patrons, one a decline, who also used to be my bosses on a job that became toxic. I don’t really want to accidentally email them when I send messages to former patrons, and I don’t want to block them to get them out of my history because they will get an email saying they have been blocked which will surely seem hostile. Please give us some discrete options to get rid of former patrons!

The fact that this hasn’t been fixed is shocking.

Has anyone from Patreon ever explained WHY they want to provoke the person you have to block?

@reyna Any ideas?

The only “reassurance” we have been given is that it doesn’t state WHO blocked the person in the email. Though that is effectively meaningless because it would take two seconds for the person to narrow it down by seeing who they are no longer supporting.

As far as reasoning for this feature goes, I’ve yet to see anything explaining the necessity.

It’s a bummer that there is silence from Patreon on this issue! Can you helps us learn more, @reyna?

This entire thread confuses me. When a payment is declined all access is blocked until the payment is resolved. I’m not sure why deleting the accounts is necessary?

Because if you limit the number of subscribers on a tier, a declined patron will take up a slot forever if they don’t delete their pledge. The only way to remove them is to block them.

Ohhhh… thank you. That makes a lot of sense.

Also, only those who have charge upfront enabled seem to for sure have blocked access to non payers. If you dont have charge upfront, it seems like folks still get access to content without paying. Which stinks because pay up front in it’s current form is -not- a solution to some people (including myself. The way it functions would mess up a lot of how my projects function. But there are other topics on these forums around the charge up front pros and cons.)

In our case, we email the declined patrons to nicely tell them there is a problem with their payment so that they can fix it if they want to. The declined patrons started piling up and piling up over the years, and it becomes awkward to keep track of who we’ve already emailed and who we haven’t. In the past, if they were declined for some time and didn’t respond to 3 attempts to contact them, we’d delete them. Made it much easier to see who still needs to be emailed some more.

One of the big issues here is that it isnt a simple delete. You have to block them and it sends an email telling them theyve been blocked by a creator. From my own experience and others that have posted here, on the discord and elsewhere, there have been documented cases of how bad this being the only option is. It has ruined relationships I’ve had with patrons who just sorta fell out of touch with patreon and had done nothing really wrong.

We need to be able to delete/remove silently or give our OWN reason (like, they havent had a successful payment in a while) and not just block them because even if you immediately unblock them, that email still gets sent and it causes problems for a lot of folks.

@reyna - I truly do not understand Patreon’s refusal to accommodate us in this regard. I still have many, many ‘limited tier’ patrons who had declines, and I’ve had to bump the number, making it not look exclusive. And the only way I can ‘fix’ this is to block them (and they will know I’ve done it). That’s just unconscionable.

There is literally no reason I can think of to not implement this except pure petulance on Patreon’s part.

Also adding my voice to this much needed feature! I have a high tier that only has 3 spots offered in it because it is very labor intensive but one of those has been taken by a declined Patron for the past 10 months. I want the ability to truly manage my past patrons. If their payments have been declined and they’re not active, then I see no reason why we can’t have the option to remove them from a tier. Then when they finally update their info they’re prompted to select a new tier or something.

It’s a new year and I am curious where this is currently on Patreon’s to-do list.

I have a declined patrons that say they have been supporting from 2015, 2016, and 2018. I have no wish for Patreon to send a hostile message that I have blocked them when I simply need them silently deleted for patron management purposes.

It has literally been 2 years since this thread was started. If you ever need a bigger example of how little regard Patreon has for the smallest of requests, this has to be it.

Not to mention it’s increasingly clear we’re talking to ourselves here. Discord is getting attention, but as I said, it’s a jumbled mess there to try to discuss a specific topic, and the history effectively disappears.
