You guys got me thinking overnight, so I’m going to experiment with a compromise on my page to see what happens.
I’ve added this wording to the ‘Pledging Tips’ section my Overview/About page:
- Would you simply like to donate $1 per month because you’d love to support my work but can’t quite commit to Tier 1? Click on any Get $XX Reward button and you’ll see that a $1 option appears in the list that reads: “No reward, I just want to support Jack Lowe.”
I’ll let you know if people take me up on it!

Hello All,
Just thought I’d let you know — specifically @ScienceMom and @hackettkate — that I got my first $1 Patron over the weekend on the back of the amended ‘Pledging Tips’ on my About page.
Seems like it might be a good compromise — raising the bar a little to put people in the right frame of mind yet making potential Patrons aware of the $1 option if that’s how they’d like to support me.
