I went to make a pledge today and stopped in my tracks when I saw there was a 35cent card processing fee for patrons. This is obviously part of the new Patreon, but I’ve gotten no notification as a creator or as a patron. If you click the little ? it says that creators were paying this before, but I’m fairly certain as a creator I was not paying such a high fee. According to the help desk, creators were given a “break” on this by bundling, but no such break is occurring for patrons.
The way I see it, this is a LOT more money going somewhere. Yes, it is a slight raise for creators if we don’t have to pay that fee, but if patrons don’t get a bundling break, that is a huge influx of money going somewhere. Please tell me patrons will get a bundling break if they are pledging to multiple creators.
If I look at earnings in my dashboard I see that I am still paying the processing fee for my current patrons. Will those already pledging be grandfathered in so that I’m paying the fee or will there come a point where they will be paying that card processing fee?
If it changes, will any type of notification go out so they are aware that they will be charged more? Will creators be informed first so we are prepared to answer any questions?
Changing the focus of Patreon, the look of the website, and the logo are changes creators might would have rather been informed of early, but can live with being surprised about. Changes regarding money need to be 100% transparent.
